August 26, 2023 Hello, On 8th August 2016, my very dear Dad, Joe (John) Kearney, previously from the Glin Road ( and then Longford town ) passed away suddenly. My Dad was so proud of where he came from, "his road, his village, his county." A mass will be offered up in Dad's memory tomorrow, Sunday 27th August 2023 @:11.30 in St. Mel's Cathedral, Longford . Missed and loved always and forever.

August 4, 2023 Hello, I wonder if anyone could help me. My family history has led me here to this village. I am looking for any information on the Kennelly family. My Great Grandmother was Mary Kennelly (07 03 1918 - 1980/1) who was born in the village, and outside of that I know next to nothing of her connection here. So much so I don't even know who her parents were! I'm hoping that being such a small village that there was only one Kennelly family. I don't suppose anyone would have any history on the family? What is curious is that she met my great grandfather (Denis Carroll) who resided in Waterford. Which is some distance. Was it common to travel so far? My mother tells me that Mary worked in service in a big house as a cook, I gather this would be in Waterford though! Any information on the family would be most welcome. Thank you!

May 29, 2023 Thanks for mention of my new book, 'A Kerry Odyssey'. Some local men who served with the Australians and New Zealanders in World war 1 are included. Martin Stack of Kilbaha enlised in the Australian Imperial Forces in July 1915, but by 1919 had deserted and returned to Ireland. He was apprehended at Listowel in March 1919 and returned to England. Edmond Cronin of Knockanure served with the New Zealanders at Gallipoli and was killed in France in May 1917.

March 12, 2023 I am researching my great-grandfather, Michael J. Downs (1859-1936) and his half-brother Daniel W. Hartnett (1852-1904) who were both born in Newtown and moved to America as adults between 1870 and 1887. Their mother was Ellen Walsh of Leitrim. Ellen married Daniel Hartnett Senior in Ahalahana in 1840 and later married Patrick Downes of Newtown in 1858. (Hence the half-brothers noted above.) Sometime after 1858 Ellen Walsh and her second husband Patrick Downs moved to Athea, Limerick where Ellen died in 1901. Her father was Michael Walsh of Leitrim. Her mother was possibly Mary Scanlon. I am looking for Walshes who may be related. Also looking for Hartnetts, Enrights, Culhanes and McCarthys who were cousins to my great-uncle Dan Hartnett. All moved to the same neighborhood in South Bethlehem, Pennsylvania between 1850 and 1880. Wondering if they followed one another from the Moyvane/Leitrim area during those years to work in South Bethlehem, PA. From the guestbook I see many Walshes, Culhanes, Enrights and Scanlons and am looking for possible connections as I am planning a visit to Moyvane and would love to learn more.

February 26, 2023 My great grandmother was Nora O’Connor, from NewtownSandes. She followed her older sister Johanna and brother Maurice to St Paul, Minnesota, USA around 1896 when she was 18. Her younger brother Michael, immigrated to Minnesota a few years later. Their mother was Johanna O’Connor. I have not been able to find out who my great great grandfather was. I believe there were 3 or 4 more children born after Michael, the youngest being Dan who stayed in Moyvane. Nora married my great grandfather, John O’Sullivan and they raised a family in St Paul, Mn, which included my grandfather, Maurice O’Sullivan. My family has visited Ireland a number of times and years ago, had the pleasure of meeting family in Moyvane, Mary Catherine and Dick Fitzmaurice and Katy and Mick Walsh. My mom, Patricia O’Sullivan is no longer with us but my uncle, John O’Sullivan has been helping me to try and fill in the gaps. He suggested contacting Gabriel Fitzmaurice, whom he had exchanged some correspondence with. While going through my mother’s things, I found a few notes from Gabriel Fitzmaurice as well as many cards and letters from Mary Catherine and Katy. I am hoping someone might point me in the right direction to continue my research or have information they are able to share. Any help would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you for your consideration.

January 1, 2023 Hello, My name is Thomas Francis Hanrahan and my father, who grew up in Moyvane, was Thomas Matthew Hanrahan. I believe the Hanrahan family still runs the farm there that my dad had grown up on before immigrating to NYC in the United States. I don’t have much more than that other than there are many Hanrahan’s I have lost touch with over the years. Someday, I hope to visit my fathers place of birth. Thank you for listening. Regards, Thomas F. Hanrahan

December 29, 2022 The church in Moyvane, that was replaced by the Church of the Assumption (current church) was built in 1837. The Parish Priest at the time was Fr. John Long. When that church was built a holy water font was brought from either Knockanure church or Murher church by Big Tom Scanlan of Leitrim Middle. It was inscribed Rev. Maurice O'Connor 1776. (Big Tom Scanlan (1794) was a nephew of Fr. O'Connor whose sister, Ellen was his mother) His father was Michael Scanlan (1764) The current church was officially opened on August 25, 1956. Parish Priest was Fr. Dan O'Sullivan.

December 26, 2022 Hi Karl, the current parish church (of the Assumption) was built in 1956, the previous church I believe was called St Mary's and was at least 100 years old. This was knocked down to make way for the current church. There are some photos of the old church on this website. There were also several churches in the surrounding townlands, over the centuries. There was one in Muhur, and one in Kilbaha I believe. Irish genealogy is a very good website for records, and there's also a website called helen's family trees which has some info on Moyvane families. You could always contact the parish priest for any information you're seeking. His name is Fr Brendan Carmody and his contact details can be found in the parish newsletters on this website. Hope this helps,
