KNOCKANURE COMMUNITY TEXT ALERT: A very important information meeting will take place on Monday night 26th November at the Community Centre Knockanure at 7.30 p.m. A special Garda Consultant will be attending along with other Gardaí to discuss Safety and Security. It is also a meeting to get to know all the new people who have come to live in our community. We extend a special welcome to them to attend. Light refreshments served afterwards. DEATH: Michael Barry, died Manchester late of Derry, Listowel.

DEATH has occurred of Sr. M. Ita O’Connor (Sr. M. Ita) Convent of Mercy, Castletownbere, Co. Cork and formerly of Duagh, Co. Kerry, on the 9th November 2018, in the loving care of the sisters and staff of Catherine McAuley Nursing Home, Beaumont Dublin. Predeceased by her sister Catherine (Ryan), brothers Dan, Tom and Denis. Sadly missed by her loving family, brother Johnny (USA), The Mercy Sisters, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, brother-in-law Michael, sister-in-law Eileen, former colleagues and students in Scoil Phobail Bhéara, relatives and friends.

Funeral Mass on Monday, November 12th, at 12 noon in St. Brigid’s Church, Duagh followed by burial in Springmount Cemetery, Duagh.

Tim O’Connor of Knocknagoshel West married Bob Ferris of Ardfert, their son Thomas O’Connor died at Dardanelle on 29th November 1915 (Munster Fusiliers). Other members of his family were Patrick, James, Sean, Tim a builder in Abbeyfeale and Daisy who married Scannell of Abbeyfeale.

From Lyons Family; My father had a first cousin who was killed in Flanders in 1916. He was Patrick John Lyons, Born Knockalougha 12/ 05/ 1881. He joined in peacetime, may be around 1904/05 in Cork and had left the army by the time of the 1911 census. When the war broke out he was called back in and was killed in action in Northern France on the 09/ 12/ 1916.His Number was 11328 and he served in the Royal Garrison Artillery.

Now the funny thing is, Jim and his wife ,myself and Jim’s son Maurice are going over to France next Friday to visit his grave. He is buried in Bellacourt Military Cemetery, Riviere, Pas de Calais.
