GRAVEYARD Masses for the Parish, were due to be held on Monday 2nd August at Ahavoher at 8pm; Tuesday 3rd August Old Knockanure at 8pm and on Wednesday 4th August Murhur at 8pm.New permanent Altar is in place at Knockanure and Ahavoher Cemeteries. Mass at Lislaughtin Abbey on Aug. 4th and Mass at St Mary’s Cemetery Tarbert on Aug. 6th at 7.30pm.

ACTIVE Retirement Day  in Knockanure is on Monday 9th August, 2010. If attending, please phone the office on 068 49799 between the hours of 9.30am to 1.30pm. Monday to Friday. MATCH: Down well deserved Champions on Saturday last July 31st `10. In May 1960 Down came to Listowel to play Kerry in the opening match at the recently redeveloped Listowel sports field, Kerry beat them decisively, but came September Down were the first team to take Sam north of the border. Maurice Hayes son of a Listowel woman was then Secretary of Down County Board. The Arthane Boys Band spent the weekend in Listowel and played at the game and on the night before performed at a packed concert.

DEATH which were work related; Hawk’s Bridge Tunnel, the 3.8-mile tunnel constructed during the depression 1930-31. It is estimated that about 1,000 of the workers died from breathing silica dust, most died when they returned home from the effects of the dust.

DEATH took place on July 28th 2010 of Anna Maria Houlihan nee Cunningham of Knocknaboula, Foynes. She is survived by children Jemma, James and John, sisters Mary, Kathy and Phil, brother Timmy. Anna Maria was predeceased by her husband John and daughter Catriona. Following Requiem Mass at Loughill Church on Friday July 30th `10, Anna Maria Houlihan was laid to rest at Knockpatrick Graveyard. Anna Maria Houlihan was born at Kilbaha to Jack Cunningham and Kitty McCoy, her brother Jim and sister Chris predeceased her.

CONCERN: Thursday 19th August is World Humanitarian Day and Concern Worldwide will be hosting an open day from midday at Cultivate on St Andrew St (off Dame St), Dublin 2 on the UN’s theme for the day: ‘I am an aid worker’ and Comhlámh will be there with an information stand. Comhlámh will be providing advice on, aid workers, including Reverse Culture Shock, social welfare entitlements and Coming Home Weekends.
