EVENTS:  Listowel Mart opening sale Jan. 12th ; Ardfert Retreat Centre invites film enthusiasts to come and watch the film ‘Erin Brockovich’ on Thursday the 12th of January at 7.30pm. It is based on a true story; Novice Final between Clounmacon B and Duagh C takes place at Coolard on 14th Jan at 2pm; An opportunity to reflect on and appreciate the wisdom, spirituality and legacy of John Moriarty – poet, mystic and storyteller.  This is taking place at Ardfert Retreat Centre on Tuesday the 7th of February from 8 to 10pm, facilitated by Mick Joyce.

GAA Supporters Club 22nd Annual Social will be held at Ballygarry House Hotel on Jan. 21st; Kerry Archaeological and Historical  Society 2011 AGM will take place in Tralee Library on Tuesday 31st January 2012, at 7.30pm, Open to all members;

 ARTS Council have given grants of over €1.2 million to enable 38 individual artists and organisations to take their shows on the road from July 2011 to July 2012. From 2005 to ’10, The  National Library  increased visitors by about 80,000, The Chester Beatty Library increased attendance by about 50,000 and the National Archives had a reduction in visitors.

WREBBOYS were scarce in the minor roads, most prefer to travel the thickly populated districts.

FJ of 31st Dec. 1921, reports martial law extended to all Munster , Kilkenny and Wexford. KILLED: 26 priests, sisters and lay people killed in 2011. Seven were killed in Colombia, five in Mexico, three in India, two in Burundi, and one each in Brazil, Paraguay, Nicaragua, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, Tunisia, Kenya, the Philippines, and Spain.

DEATH took place on 24th December 2011 of Jack O Brien  of Moyvane Village and late of Cahirdown, Listowel, Jack is survived by his wife Emma and son Ivan, sibling, Oonagh Frew,  Carmel Harnett, Liam and Owen in Dublin and Gerard in England. Requiem Mass for Jack O Brien was celebrated in the Church of the Assumption, Moyvane on Wednesday December 28th 2011, following Mass Jack O Brien was laid to rest at Ahavoher Cemetery, Knockanure. Jack was son of Eugene and Mai O Brien of Caherdown and he married Emma in 1975. Celebrants at the Requiem Mass were Fr Lucid the chief celebrant assisted by Fr O Callaghan, Fr McMahon, Fr Sheehy, Fr Walsh and Fr Anthony. Seminarian Sean Jones also attended.  Choir were Tara, Seline  and Mary Mulvihill.

DEATH took place on 26th  December 2011 of Maureen Sheehy of Leitrim Middle .

Maureen was predeceased by her husband Ned Sheehy and is survived by her children Tom, Eddie, Denny, Martin, Jim, Patsy, Mary, Hannah, Catherine and Nancy.

Requiem Mass for Maureen Sheehy was celebrated in Moyvane Church on Thursday 29th December 2011 by Fr Lucid assisted by Fr Lawlor. Maureen was laid to rest at Ahavoher Cemetery, Knockanure beside her husband Ned who  died May 1994. Maureen Sheehy was born to Tom Mulvihill and Hannie Bunce, just over 80 years ago.

DEATH took place on 24th December 2011 of Sr. Carmel Beasey of Listowel Presentation Convent. Thursday 8th September 2011 the Presentation Order  and  relatives, friends and former colleagues of Sr. Carmel Beasley celebrated  her 100th birthday at Fatima Home in Tralee. Sr. Carmel was born at Beale, Ballybunion, Sr. Carmel joined the Presentation Order in Listowel at the age of 18 and after completing her teacher training in Carysfort College in Dublin, returned to Listowel where she taught until her retirement. Sr Carmel was one of five children, she is survived by her sister, Sr Enda who is a Drishane nun, and was predeceased by brothers, Michael, Jimmy and Fr John Joe Beasley. Sr. Beasley is well known for her voluntary work including her support for Kerry Parents and Friends and the Irish language. Following Requiem Mass in Listowel Church on Wednesday 28th December 2011, Sr Carmel Beasley was laid to rest at the Presentation plot in St Michael’s Cemetery, Listowel. Her father Martin taught at Kilconly National School.

DEATH has taken place of  Sr. Anna Patricia O’Connor on  December 20th 2011 a Sister of the Bon Secours, Cork  , she was born 100 years ago at Grogeen, Abbeyfeale, she is survived by her sister Margaret Quigley, her brother Michael O Connor in America. Sr. Anna Patricia O Connor was laid to rest in St. Oliver’s Cemetery, Model Farm Rd, Cork, following Requiem Mass on Friday.

DEATH took place on December 27th 2011 of Elizabeth Lynch, nee Relihan of Shanaway, Tarbert. Following Requiem Mass at St. Mary’s Church, Tarbert. Elizabeth Lynch was laid to rest at Ahavoher Cemetery, Knockanure .

DEATH has occurred of Denis Son Histon of Clounmacon. Following Requiem Mass in Listowel Church on Monday 2nd January 2012, Son Histon was laid to rest in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Listowel. Denis Histon is survived by his sisters Peg, Bett and Bridie.

DEATH took place recently of Noreen Buckley née Dillon, Meenard, Duagh and late of Kilmorna, she is the last of her family to pass away. Noreen was predeceased by her husband Paddy and survived by three daughters and a son. Following Requiem Mass in Duagh Church celebrated by Fr Moore, Noreen Buckley was laid to rest at St Michael’s Churchyard, Listowel on 29th December 2011.

TALK ;The Diocese of Kerry will host a talk, What is the point of being a Christian? with Fr. Timothy Radcliffe  on Wednesday January 11th at 8pm in the Conference Centre, The Malton Hotel, Killarney, all are welcome.

HOLY Day January 6th, Feast of the Epiphany. Mass in Knockanure at 10am and in Moyvane at 11.00am for Ned Moore ; Sunday Jan. 8th Feast of Baptism of the Lord. Mass on Sat. 7th at 7.30pm, For the People of the Parish. We had a lovely choir on Sunday last Jan. 1st 2012. Special Meal with Fr Anthony was held at the Community Centre on Thursday last.
