SAINT  PIO  EVENING MASS will take place on Thursday next (13th December)  at 7pm. incorporating the Rosary, Mass and Benediction.

COULD YOU NOT SPEND ONE HOUR WITH ME? preparation for Christmas – Eucharistic Adoration Listowel from 3 – 6pm will take place each Sunday of Advent in the Adoration Chapel and also every Tuesday & Wednesday. You are invited to drop in and spend time before the Blessed Sacrament.

MEDJUGORJE MONTHLY PRAYER MEETING took place on Monday 10th December at 7.30pm. in the Listowel Parish Meeting Room.

GRAVEYARD Committee of Knockanure and Moyvane will meet in the Marian Hall Moyvane on Friday 14th December at 8.30pm.

ATHEA: The annual Going Strong/St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Dinner and Party will take place on Wednesday, December 12th at the Top of the Town.

STATION for Gortdromagouna at the home of Margaret Carmody on 14th December at 7.30pm. If you would like to have the Stations in your home or a private House Mass, please contact the Presbytery.

CELTIC Tenors who will be performing in Glin Church on Friday December 21st.

LAUNCH of Ballydonoghue Magazine on Dec. 13th at the Thatch at 8pm. Knocknagoshel Then and Now magazine is also available locally. We are also looking forward to the Athea and Ballyguiltenane Journal.

CRAFT Fair at Seanchai on Sunday Dec. 16th from 11an to 5pm.

SCHOOL Holidays from 24th Dec. to Jan. 4th, local school children decorated the Jesse Tree at Knockanure Church recently.

NEW Moon on Dec. 13th, the last moon mission, Apollo 17, celebrates its 50th anniversary this month Dec. 2012.

PLAQUE to the memory of Paddy Finucane will be unveiled by Mick Finucane at Gale Bridge on the Mail Road a short distance from  his birthplace on December 16th at 2pm, all are welcome.
Paddy was the principal man behind the proposal of the Drainage scheme in 1951.

REMEMBERANCE Tree, this event will take place on Sunday 16th December 2012 at 3.00p.m. outside the Tralee Town Council offices on Princes Quay.  This tree gives people an opportunity to place an ornament on it to remember all those who we have lost to suicide .

VOLUNTEERING Overseas: Where Do I Start? Kerry

Our next workshop on “Volunteering Overseas: Where Do I Start?” will be delivered in collaboration with the Kerry One World Centre. This workshop is for people who are considering volunteering or working overseas in a development context.  Topics discussed will include:
Concepts of  development
The role of the volunteer/development worker in contributing to change
Motivations and expectations for volunteering
Types of volunteering opportunities available
Possibilities for getting involved in global development from Ireland

BOOK: Vincent Carmody, launched new book, Listowel, Snapshots of an Irish Market Town, 1850-1950, it is A4 size, hard backed with dust cover and is in full colour, it contains 272 pages. Through eight chapters is traces one hundred years of social and commercial history of Listowel through the medium of old letterheads/billheads/photographs and social comment.

ANCESTORS: Susan Twomey of California who traces her McKenna ancestors “My great-great grandfather Patrick McKenna from Listowel was born c. 1802, married Sarah/Sally M Stack from Duagh…they married c. 1832 and had their 14 children in Ireland before moving to America c. 1862 and settling in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  Pat died in 1865 in Negaunee, Marquette County, Michigan. Pat and Sally were my mother’s great grandparents.”

Annual Sacristan’s Collection Knockanure on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Margaret would like to express her sincere gratitude to the parishioners for their generosity during the year.

Knockanure Community Centre Christmas Meal for the Active Retired. The Annual Christmas meal for the active retired will be held at Knockanure Community Centre on Monday 10th December. Christmas Celebration in Knockanure Church on Sunday evening 23rd December from 7.00pm to 8.00pm. The children will be performing the “Nativity Story” Christmas Carols and Hymns, special prayer and reflection this being “The Year of the Faith”. Don’t miss this special evening of spirituality and healing a great way to prepare for the coming of Jesus into our homes and our hearts for Christmas.
