CONGRATULATIONS to Knockanure N.S Quiz team who have won four in a row in their category in the Credit Union Quiz. Well done to the U11 team of Ollie Moran, Brian Reidy, Cian Murphy and Ryan Large, thanks also to their parents and teachers.

CONGRATULATIONS to Gerard Barrett, writer-director-editor-producer of Pilgrim Hill having just won the IFTA Rising Star award. Pilgrim Hill was shot in a week on €4,500. It premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh 2012, where Gerard won the Best New Irish Talent Award. Its North American premiere was at Telluride Film Festival where Gerard Barrett was selected as the next Great Expectation. Previous Rising Star Award recipients  2012 winner writer/director John Michael McDonagh; Domhnall Gleeson in 2011; Tom Moore  IFTA Rising Star in 2010. Actor Michael Fassbender received the Rising Star Award in 2009;  actress Saoirse Ronan was named the winner of the first Irish Film Board Rising Star IFTA in 2008.

CLOTHES Collection will take place on Thursday 28th February between 12 – 4pm at the Community Centre, Moyvane. Bags can also be dropped off on Wednesday 27th between 6 – 8pm.

All funds raised will go towards running Moyvane Ladies Football Club.

DEATH has taken place of Nora Walsh nee McMahon of Upper Dirreen, Athea,  on January 31st, 2013, she was aged 85, predeceased by her husband Joe; survived by her, daughters Katrina, and Gerardine, sons Eddie, & Conor . Requiem Mass for Nora Walsh was celebrated in Athea Church on 5th February 2013, she was laid to rest following mass at Holy Cross Cemetery, Athea.

ROSARY Walk; This walk  will take place in Tralee at 11.30a.m. on Ash Wednesday the 13th of February.

THANKS: Abbeyfeale a parish of 4000, gathered 370  parishioners  for a ‘thank you’ to all who volunteer in the parish on Feb. 2nd 2013. Attendance included  members of boards of management, of choirs, of parish ministry teams. There were liturgy ministers (Word, Eucharist, etc), youth club leaders, sacristans and those who lead sacramental preparation programs for children.

LENTEN TALKS 2013:  To mark the season of Lent and the ‘Year of Faith’ Listowel Pastoral Area which includes – the parishes of Listowel, Moyvane/Knockanure, Lixnaw/Irremore & Duagh/Lyreacrompane – are hosting a series of Lenten talks on various aspects of life – taking place on Wednesday nights during Lent. Each of the above parishes will host a Talk – beginning in Lyreacrompane Community Centre on Wednesday, 20th Feb. At 8.00 p.m.  The first night will deal with the topic of ‘Coping with Suicide’. There will be a guest speaker each night, the talks are free and everyone is welcome. More details again next week. The Diocese are also hosting Lenten Talks beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 19th at Dromhall Hotel by Fr. Michael Drumm speaking about ‘Living as a Christian Today’.
