DEATH took place on September 30th `07 of Joan Ahern, nee McElligott of Beale Hill and formally of Coolaclarig, her husband John Francis Ahern, sons Jerry, John, Paddy and Dan, daughters Marie, Noreen and Margaret survives her. Following Requiem Mass at Ballybunion Church on Wednesday Oct 3rd celebrated by Fr Hegarty, Canon Linnane and Fr John Kennelly Joan Ahern was laid to rest at Kilconly Churchyard. Joan was a sister of the late Mary Enright of Knockanure Village. Joan Ahern was born 85 years ago to Jack McElligott of Coolaclarig and Nora Cantillon of Causeway. Her siblings were Mary, John, Nora, Peg and Paddy. Both Joan Ahern and Gerald Mulvihill went to the same school and died on the same day.
Death took place on September 30th `07 of Gerald Mulvihill of Shronowen, Listowel. He is survived by his wife Kathleen Hanrahan a native of Kilbaha, sons Fr Eamon, Mike, Dan, and Joseph and daughters Mary and Sheila. Gerald Mulvihill was laid to rest following Requiem Mass for Gerald Mulvihill was celebrated at Ballydonoghue Church by his son Fr Eamon, Fr Lawlor, Fr Nolan and about 30 priests. Gerald was born in February 82 years ago to Ned Mulvihill of Shronowen and Julia O Sullivan of Lixnaw, his siblings were Fr Dan, Michael, Denis and Sr. Mercedes in Thurles. Gerald’s family could count over 50 relations who worked in the religious life, in the early part of the last century Bishop Cunningham took several cousins including the Mulvihill’s to Concordia, Kansas to work in his diocese.

NEW Moon is on Oct 11th; The finding of the largest star known so far was announced on October 7th 1997 it is 25,000 light-years from Earth and was obscured from view by a dust cloud in the Milky Way; The weather here is nice and warm with many days dry, in the South Island in NZ, it is reported that thy are getting rough spring weather; plums, sloes and blackberries are diseased this year, they are plentiful but inedible; we have a bumper crop of apples and haws in perfect condition.
SCHOOLS: Knockanure National School Junior Infants class and their new Principal Julienne Donegan had their picture in last weeks Kerryman, the class includes Gavin O Connor, Ollie Moran, Niamh McAuliffe, Ryan Large and Cian Murphy. All the children in the school are participating in the Departments programme that encourages the eating of fresh whole food.
Murhur pupils photo was also in the Kerryman, included were Kevin Hudson, Joe Coulson, Martin Stack, Liam Corridan, Edward Moore, Kellie Sheehy, Charlene Mulvihill, and Ashley Sheehy. Junior Infants included David Sexton McEnery, Declan Sexton McEnery, Thomas Walsh, Micheal Fogarty, Sean Stackpoole, Kieran Swan, Eamon O Connor, Aobha Quinn, Holly Heffernan, Brid Stack, Dion Pierce and Claire Galvin.
WEDDINGS: The marriage took place at the Irish College in Rome on September 3rd `07 of Sheila Windle of Leitrim West and John O Connell of Woodford, the bride is daughter of Michael and Kitty Windle and the grooms parents are Tom and Patsy O Connell.
The marriage took place in Moyvane Church on September 28th `07 of Johanna Leahy of Moyvane and Gerard Curtin of Clounmacon, Listowel, and the ceremony was performed by Fr Pat Moore and Fr John Lucid. Bridesmaids were Nora, Mary Band Trisha Leahy. Best man Derek Galvin and groomsmen were Denis and Tony Curtin. Flower girl Edel Quinn and Pageboy was Sean Curtin. The bride is a daughter of Pat and Mary Leahy and the groom is son of Anthony and Kitty Curtin.
Best wishes to Eileen and Danny Hannon of Listowel on their Golden Wedding Anniversary, which they celebrated recently.
Best Wishes to Sheila and John Ryan of Skehenerin who celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary at the Arms Hotel recently, Sheila and John ran a small shop at their home for many years.
CONGRATULATIONS to Micheal O Sullivan of Clieveragh who was recently elected Hon Lifetime President of Listowel and District Active Retirement Association, all his friends wish him well.

RETIREMENT: Garda Denis Holly of Moyvane has retired on August 11th 2007 after 35 years service with An Garda Siochana, he joined in May 1972 and served in Clonakilty, Bantry, Knocknagree, Stradbally, and Denis served 29 years at Kilmallock. He is married to Kay O Connor of Duagh and they have children Dominic and Marian.
