VINTAGE DAY in Knockanure on August 18th.
The Knockanure Community Centre Committee is holding a cake sale at the Vintage. Anybody wishing to donate confectionaries can drop them to any member of the committee.

DEFIBRILLATOR training was due to take place on 12th August at the Community Centre Knockanure at 7.00 p.m, places are limited to six.

CLOTHES: Moyvane Ladies Football, clothes collection will take place on Thursday 15th August at the Community Centre, Moyvane. Bags may also be dropped off on Wednesday 14th August between 6-8pm .

Congratulations to Maureen Murphy formerly of the Failte Bar who was awarded a Year of the Gathering Award at the recent Fleadh na Mumhan awards ceremony at the University of Limerick.

GRAEYARD Mass in Kilnaughtin Cemetery on 16th August at 7.30pm.

DEATH has occurred on August 4th 2013 of John P Walsh, Barragougeen, Moyvane. Survived by wife Marie, sons Pat, Jerry, John Joe, James and Mike, daughters Helen, Ann, Theresa and Margaret, sisters, Josie in Duncaha, Mai in England and Margaret in Blennerville. His brother Paschal predeceased him. Requiem mass for John P Walsh was celebrated on Tuesday 6th 2013  in the Church of the Assumption, Moyvane. John P Walsh was laid to rest afterwards in Ahavoher Cemetery, Knockanure, beside his father Pat (1889-1972) who server in the US army and his mother Ellie Flaherty who was a native of Knockanure. Both John and his father were good at recitation.

DEATH took place on 2nd August 2013 of Michael O’Keeffe of Moybella, Lisselton at St. James’s Hospital, Dublin.  Survived by his wife  Joan (Daly), daughters, Marie, Margaret and Catherine, sisters, Mary, Joan, Nora and Bridget, and brother John.  Requiem Mass at St. Teresa’s Church, Ballydonoghue  on 6th August 2013, was celebrated by Fr Lawlor assisted by Fr Dillon and Fr Hagerty. Michael O Keeffe was laid to rest afterwards in John Paul II Cemetery, Listowel. Family members assisted Stephen Donegan with the music. Michael was predeceased by siblings, Patrick, Jerry, Katherine, and Eileen. His father was a native of Duagh.

DEATH has taken place of Kathleen Crowley née O’Sullivan, Dromtrasna-Collins, Abbeyfeale on August 6th 2013, in her 98th year, wife of the late Denis, mother of the late Margaret Sheehy and Jimmy; survived by  son Denis, daughters Mary Ita (Keane), Nora (Daly) and Kathleen (Walsh), sisters Mary and Eily, Requiem Mass for Kathleen Crowley was celebrated at The Church of the Assumption, Abbeyfeale on 9th August 2013. Funeral afterwards to St Mary’s Cemetery, Abbeyfeale.

DEATH  occurred on 2nd August 2013 of Veronica (Vera) Keane (née Regan), Ard na Sidhe, Mounthawk, Tralee, formally of Dublin, London and Baltovin, Kilmoyley. Vera is survived by her husband Joe and family. Requiem Mass for Vera Keane was celebrated on Thursday 8th August 2013 in the Sacred Heart Church, Kilmoyley. Burial afterwards in the New Cemetery, Reilig Naomh Erc,  Kilmoyley.

MASS FROM ST. JOHN’S The 10.30 a.m. Mass in St. John’s Parish Church on Sunday, August 18th,2013 will be broadcast live on RTE television.
The occasion will feature a new Mass in Irish by Fr. Pat Ahern, which was first performed in the Cathedral, Ardfert on May 16th last, to mark the feast of St. Brendan. The two choirs of St. John’s, with organist, John Jones, will be joined by Siamsóirí na Ríochta singers and a group of traditional musicians, who will provide the offertory music. The dancers, recently seen at the ordination of our new Bishop Ray Browne, will again be at hand to present a special offertory sequence. The celebrant for the Mass will be Fr. Francis Nolan. The Mass will also be carried live on RTE radio.

FOOTBALL:  100 amputee footballers from across Europe were in Limerick last weekend for a two-day football tournament.

TRAIL: The Great Southern Trail has been granted a complimentary group return rail journey by Iarnród Éireann and proposes to avail of their generosity by making a visit to the West of Ireland. The plan is to commence the tour from Limerick Station at 9.20a.m. on Monday 1st Sept. by boarding the direct train to Athenry. At Athenry we change trains for Athlone where there will be a break from noon till 2p.m. before boarding the Westport train.
On arrival in Westport at 4p.m. we check-in to our hotel for two nights B+B and 2 Dinners. On Tuesday we will be transferred by coach to Achill to begin our, mostly downhill, cycle along the Great Western Greenway www.greenway.ie. Anyone unable to complete the entire 25 miles will be picked up by mini-bus along the way.
Wednesday morning will be free to explore Westport before departing from the local station on the 1.10p.m. train via Roscommon, Athlone and Portarlington (change trains) arriving in Limerick at 5.40 p.m. where the tour ends.
The cost of €150 covers everything outlined above on the basis of sharing a room. A single room (limited amount) will increase the cost to €190.

SHOOTING STARS: see the most meteors per hour on the night of Monday, August 12th 2013. The Perseids have been observed for around 2000 years and are the result of Earth passing through a cloud of dust left behind Comet Swift-Tuttle. As Earth moves through this cloud, the particles fall into our atmosphere and burn up, creating shooting stars.
