GOLDEN Jubilee celebrations for Fr. Brendan O Callaghan on Thursday night last at the community centre brought out a host of talented performers. Following Mass, presentations were made to Fr Brendan and Fr. Tom McMahon, some short speeches and reminiscences of Knockanure over 50 years go, then entertainment began with a few stories from Dan Keane. Gabriel, Gerard and Joe ably assisted by Miss Finucane provided the music. Maureen danced a jig and Julia danced The Highland Fling to the delight of all. Songs were sung by Eddie, Philip, Jerry, Margaret, Sean, Christy and Fr Tom. The school musicians played the Valley of Knockanure, a new generation developing their talent. Refreshments were provided by local volunteers. There is no hope of ever having a Golden Jubilee celebration to the priesthood in the next 50 years in Knockanure, so the night was very special as it was also the first golden jubilee held at the Knockanure Community Centre. BEST Wishes to Canon Linnane of Listowel on his retirement and welcome to Fr Declan O Connor the new Parish Priest of Listowel.

NEW Irish representative on the European Economic and Social Council is now a bird watch man, whatever his background he will have to learn speedily to protect the economic interests of this Country. We know that hundreds of butcher shops were closed by EU regulations and thousands of farmers are being put under pressure from supermarkets who have the purchasing power and EU regulations which distract farmers from their work , while achieving cosmetic results.

FOOTBALLER, James O Donovan a Limerick player could be considered a Knockanure man as his grandmother was Agnes Leahy of Lisaniska.

WEDDING: Best wishes to Caroline Hughes of Moyvane and Ger O Sullivan of Skibbereen who were married by Fr. Lucid P.P. at Moyvane Church on July 3rd 2010. The bride is daughter of Patrick and Noreen Hughes and the groom’s parents are Pat and Una O Sullivan. Best man was Kevin Connolly, groomsmen were Frank Stafford, Stephen McCarthy and Donal Courtney. Bridesmaids, Hughes sisters, Sharon, Anita, and Jacinta and Elaine Scarlet. Flower girls Josephine Hughes, Dion Pierce and Abbi O Sullivan. Pageboys Darren Hughes, and Sean Pierce.

KNOCK: A bus took pilgrims from the district to Knock last week; it was a lovely day with a cool breeze, not a day for sitting on benches. There was sadness in many of our hearts as we remembered Eileen Goulding who died suddenly recently, she organised the bus for us for many years. A visit to the Knock Museum gives an insight in the past and a chance to see many articles associated with the shrine. Knock Parish leaflet carries the usual notices including pilgrimages to Lough Derg, Lourdes and Medjugorje. St Catherine Laboure Holiday home in Knock for senior citizens charge E35 for B&B.
