COMMUNITY Games for the children of the Parish will take place in the Moyvane Sports field on Tuesday May 13th at 5pm.
BEST Wishes on their First Communion on Saturday May 10th to Rachael Rowlands, Maerdbh McEvoy, Grace McElligott, Christopher Keane and Maria Kennelly, It was a day to celebrate and remember for family members, neighbours, friends and relations also, many took part in preparations for the big day, the choir sang and children read the Readings and out Parish Priest Celebrated the Mass. All who helped deserve our appreciation.

SCHOOL: Knockanure N.S are asking any parent who wish to enrol their child for September `08, to contact the school for an enrolment form between 1pm and 3pm on school days, applications must be in before end of May.

ART; Knockanure school children have a fine display of Picasso type art on display at the school, great credit to the pupils and their art teacher Mrs Brennan. The First Communion art poster in the church includes cross chalice, host, bread, wheat ears and grapes.

SOCIAL Day for actively retired will be held at Knockanure Community Centre on Monday 12th of May fro 9.30am to 1pm, please ring 068 49799 to book your place.

Radio Link in the Church was faulty, but is no back; it is a great consolation to the people who use it.

ATHEA First Communion will be on May 17th at 11am, Athea Community Games will be held on Wednesday May 14th starting at 6.30pm; Athea N.S Golf Classic will be held in Newcastle on Friday June 13th.

CHARITY Night will be presented by Kerry Choral Union on May 18th in Listowel Parish Church starting at 8pm, proceeds in aid of Aras Mhuire Nursing Home.

DEVOTIONS: To Our Lady Queen of the May will be held at Knockanure Church on Sunday afternoon May 18th from 3.30pm to 4.30pm, it will consist of Hymns and prayers of healing, and we also remember students doing exams. Guest speaker Fr Pat Moore P.P. Duagh on Healing, supported by Fr. Lucid P.P., Fr. McMahon and Fr. O Callaghan. Donations of flowers will be appreciated, all are welcome. Eucharistic Procession in Listowel is on Sunday May 25th `08.

ST PIO Prayer Group will meet at Listowel Church on Thursday May 22nd at 7.15pm, all are welcome.

Afternoon of Prayer will be held at Scartaglen Church on Sunday May 18th at 2.45pm.

ST Pio Pilgrimage to Holy Cross takes place on Sunday May 25th.

40 Hours Eucharistic Adoration Mission in Listowel which began on Friday evening May 9th was an unusual experience, many spent more than three hours in the church, the usual rush from the church was noticeably absent, people who were absent missed the lovely singing of the young Canadian friar Brother Gabriel and the inspiring activities of Fr Sylvester had the people relaxed and hopefully will make a renewed effort to follow in Christ’s footsteps. Saturday evening Mass with the choir and inspirational talk was very well received.

Lough Derg Pilgrimage begins on May 31st, details from 068 31232, Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm.

Rosary will be said at the Grotto in Clounmacon every Friday during May at 8pm. May 13th is Feast of Our Lady of Fatima. Pope will be in Lourdes from 12th to 15th of September `08.

OLDER People: Various events are being run in May to encourage and highlight the activities of older people, Say No to Ageism Week runs from 19th to 23rd of May, booklet on activities is available at the Library or ring 1890 50 60 60.

CREATIVE Writing for older people will be facilitated by Gabriel Fitzmaurice at the library in Listowel on 13th and 20th of May `08, time 11am to 1pm, everyone welcome.

FULL Moon on May 20th, most trees except the ash are gradually being covered by leaves, apple trees, fruit trees, furze bush and the blackthorn are in flower and the whitethorn with its lovely aroma is flowering in sheltered places the weather is producing great growth in grass that has been preserved. The Cuckoo is singing to his hearts content in the local bog, the Dawn Chorus is at its peak, while dandelion, lady’s smock and daises are thriving.

SHOW: The Kingdom County Show on Sunday May 11th was another great warm day only just a bit of mist in the evening, it would take a long day to observe all the events which included, dog show, horse and buggy trials, show jumping, exhibitions of vintage and antiques, art, baking and produce competitions, food of various kinds were available, what was missing was what are called healthy foods. Fowl of various breeds were on display and sports for the athletic minded and much more to browse and view.
