Knockanure Notes – 11th September, 2011

SCHOOL: Scoil Chorp Chríost Parents’ Association, Knockanure are holding a Church Gate Collection at Masses in Moyvane on Saturday 17th September and Sunday 18th September 2011. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
All pupils and staff in Scoil Chorp Chriost are well settled back now. The School is looking beautiful with its spacious new extension and freshly painted grounds. Eleven new Junior Infants have started this year; Aoife Walsh, Caoimhe O Sullivan, Clodagh Donegan Ward, Kelly Enright, Cian Halton, Fionn Stack, Aaron Flavin, Aaron White, Ben Sweeney, Ethan Benham, Harry O Connor. All pupils and teachers have been very busy decorating the school in the county colours and are looking forward to Sam’s return to the Kingdom. John Barry, caretaker, must be commended for putting up all the green and gold buntings and flags. Mrs Donegan’s class made up slogans for the All Ireland Final. These are a few of them; The Kerry team are beyond their teens, but they will lick Dublin’s young jackeens; The Dublin colours are cold and blue, but The Kerry colours are gold and true; The Kingdom will win, we’ll put the Dubs in the bin!. TURF Cutters in Moanveanleagh Bog are disappointed that the government is forcing them off the bog. During the war the County Council had boats removing turf from the banks. It would be interesting to know the names of the people and the real reason for the ban.

TIDY Towns; Congratulations to all who were making an effort to make our locality looking well. Knockanure received 239 marks, they got 7 out of 10 marks for general impression. The judges noted in waste reduction, that a survey revealed that one thirs of food purchased was discarded, rather than consumed.

BALLYHEIGUE was crowded for the feast of  Our Lady’s Birthday, many locals attended, the afternoon was warm and beautiful.

DEATH took place on September 9th 2011 of John Patrick Ryan of Skehenerin, Listowel,  and formerly of Ahanagran. He was predeceased by his wife Sheila Synan and is survived by his sister Margaret and brother Maurice,  sons Patsy, Johnny, Brendan and Billy, daughters Kathy, Maura, Sheila, Breda and Olive. Following Requiem Mass at St. Mary’s Church, Listowel on Sunday September 11th John Patrick Ryan was laid to rest at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Listowel.

DEATH of Ned Stack of Cahirdown, Listowel, took place on Sept. 9, 2011. Ned is survived by his wife Nora, son William, daughter-in-law Catherine, grandson Noel, brother Tom, sisters Sr. Gertrude, Sr. Margaret and was predeceased by his brothers Danny, John, Liam and Pat. Following Requiem Mass at Listowel Church, Ned Stack was laid to rest at John Paul II Cemetery, Listowel on September 12th 2011.
