COMMUNITY Centre dance will be held on Friday 16th of March at 9.30pm, music is by Blue Moon, all are welcome. For further information ring 068 49799. Community Centre sponsored walk will be held on April 1st, assemble at 1.30pm; Refreshments on return and monster Raffle. Easter Party time on the same day from 2pm to 4pm….Activities for the kids will include a fun quiz, Face Painting, Disco with DJ Shicco and Easter Egg Galore for all kids. Admission €3 per child…..family concessions. Please support this great fun packed day…you wont be disappointed. Donation will be going to Listowel Hospice.Social day for the Active Retired was held in Knockanure Community centre on Monday  12th March 2012.

CLOTHES: Scoil Chorp Chríost Parents’ Association, Knockanure are having a used  (clean)clothes, bedlinen, curtains & shoes collection on Friday 23rd March from 2 to 3.30 pm and on Saturday 24th March from 3 to 5 pm, at Scoil Chorp Chríost school gate, Knockanure. TURF Cutting; Two busloads of North Kerry Turf cutters and supporters headed to Dublin last week. Outside Leinster House  Luke Ming Flanagan and Michael Healy Rae addressed them. They got back in Listowel at 2.30am.

DEATH:
Louis O’Carroll died on March 2, 2012, following a road accident in Listowel. Well known in singing the works of Sean McCarthy, Sigerson Clifford  and the Valley of Knockanure, he was also part owner of a horse called Knockanure Lad. Dr O’Carroll, 62, was survived by his wife  Judy and  son, James in Dublin. Louis was the youngest of a family of 15 children of James O Carroll and Ellen Moloney, both were natives of Charles Street, there were ten boys and five girls in the family which lived at Cahirdown, Listowel. Just a week before he died he was performing at Writers Week fundraiser,  he sang among many other songs ‘The Valley Of Knockanure, he recalled his mother Ellen  memories of seeing the bodies of those killed on that day at Gortaglanna on the back of a military lorry in listowel. A psychiatrist by profession, he worked for  20 years in St Ita’s Hospital, Portrane,

DEATH took place on 5th March 2012 of Bridie O Flaherty, nee Sheahan of Tubbertoureen, Moyvane. Bridie was born in 1921 at Ballyguiltenane to Mona and Murt Sheahan and was predeceased by her husband Con and grandson Mark and granddaughter Mary, survived by her children, Catherine, Eddie, Gerard, Denis, Mary, Michael and Hannah and sister Mrs Mary Donnellan. Requiem Mass for Bridie O Flaherty was celebrated on Wednesday 7th March in Moyvane Church by Fr. Eamon Mulvihill assisted by Fr Russell, Fr Crawford and Fr Lucid; Elaine Foley sang the hymns. Bridie was laid to rest in Ahavoher Cemetery, Knockanure beside her husband Con who died in Dec. 1992 aged 77 years and granddaughter Mary O Flaherty who died in 1990.

DEATH took place on 8th March 2012 of Sr. M. Pius O Farrell, Presentation Sisters, Evergreen Street, Cork and formerly of 75 Church Street, Listowel, she was predeceased by her brother John Paul O’Farell. Sr. Pius is survived by sisters Birdie Browne of Listowel, Ernie McDermott in Limerick, Angela Whelan , Listowel, Maonna Lorigan,Macroom and Presentation Sisters. Following Requiem Mass in Listowel Church, Sr. Pius O Farrell was laid to rest in St Michaels Churchyard, Listowel on 10th March 2012. Kerryman of July 9th 1949 reports Profession at Presentation Convent, Tralee of Sr. M Pius , Josephine O Farrell of Listowel.

DEATH took place on March 8th 2012 of Michael Kissane of Murhur, Moyvane. Michael was predeceased by his wife Nellie McElligott and sisters Bridie and Mary and is survived by sons  Michael and Padraig, brother Johnny, sister Eileen. Michael was son of Michael Kissane and Catherine Carmody. Requiem Mass for Michael was celebrated in Moyvane Church on 10th March 2012 by Fr. Lucid, Fr. Dillon and Fr O Connell, Stephen Donegan sang the hymns. Michael Kissane was laid to rest in the family grave at St Michael’s Churchyard in Listowel.

DEATH took place unexpectedly on 8th March 2012 of Bridie Flavin of Trien, Knockanure. Bridie is survived by her Husband Tom,( they were married for over 50 years) daughters, Helen Dowling and Mairead Lynch and sons, Pat and Tom, brother Michael and sisters Maureen and Nora. Bridie born 1st Jan 1936 was daughter of John Buckley and Margaret O Connor of Banaraha. Margaret was a native of Caher Abbeyfeale. Requiem Mass for Bridie Flavin was celebrated at Knockanure Church on Sunday 11th March 2012, by Fr McMahon assisted by Fr Lucid, Fr O Callaghan and Fr Dillon. Choir were Mary Mulvihill, Karen Trench, Ann Cox and Eileen Joyce. Bridie was laid to rest at Ahavoher Cemetery, Knockanure, graveside prayers were recited by Fr Lucid and Fr Moore. Fr McMahon remarked that Mass was the centre of Bridie’s life and she took every opportunity to attend.
