TURF cutting is decreasing year by year, probably by the next generation only a few hardy fellows will continue a tradition which has lasted thousands of years, now the few who still want to cut turf in Moanveanlagh will be forced to stop to comply with new Environmental Directives. As sure as night follows day the EU will one day give grants to small scale turf cutters when they see their environmental benefit. In 1981 plans were in place to cut £0.25 million worth of turf per year in bogs at Tullamore and Graffa and no naturalist complained.

WALKING: The Annual Cuckoo Walking Festival will be held as usual on the May Bank Holiday week-end in Tarbert. The festival launch will take place in the Bridewell on Friday 2nd May 2008 at 8.30 pm. LNG Annual Community Contribution, which will be administered by the planning authority in conjunction with the Community Liaison Committee, for the benefit of the local community. The amount specified was E200,000 per annum. The first payment must be made prior to the commencement of the development. DEATH took place on April 4th `08 at Raheny, Dublin of Bess Daly nee Clancy daughter of Con Clancy and Jeanie Casey of Knockanure Village. Bess was married to Michael Daly and is survived by sons Michael and Tom; she was predeceased by siblings Jerry, Maurice, Neilus and Rita.
Death has taken place on April 7th `08 of Jer Mulvihill of Glennalappa, Moyvane; he was born in 1915 to Pat Mulvihill and Nora Sheehy. Jer was predeceased by his wife Catherine Connolly and is survived by sons Pat and Jeremiah and daughter Nora, sister Mai and brother Con in England. His siblings Mike, Jim, Martin, and Pat predeceased him. Following Requiem Mass in Moyvane Church on Wednesday April 9th `08 celebrated by Fr John Lucid assisted by Fr Liam Lovell, Jer Mulvihill was laid to rest among generations of his ancestors at Murhur Churchyard on a lovely cool spring afternoon. Hymns in the Church were sung by Stephen Donegan. Jer was also fond of music, when his mother died, he was aged 13 years from then on he ran the house for his father and siblings, including making bread from an early age.
Death took place on April 7th `08 of Francis Woulfe nee Clarke of the Horeshoe Bar Listowel and the Marine Hotel Ballybunion, following requiem mass in Listowel Church Francis Woulfe was laid to rest at St Michael’s Churchyard, Listowel on April 11th `08.
