FUN DAY: Knockanure family fun day on the 10th of Sept at 1pm, Knockanure GAA field. We have sport’s day activities, penalty shoot outs, tug of war, meet our local stars, bake sale, disco and lots more activities on the day. Cash only event. All welcome. Fund raising for Scoil Chorp Chriost outdoor equipment.

SEPTEMBER is the month of the seven sorrows of Mary. Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is celebrated on Thursday 14th September. On this day in 335AD the Cross of Christ, found by St. Helena the previous day, was first venerated in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.

DEATH of Maurice (Mossie) Kearney, Moyvane South, Moyvane, on September 1st, 2023. Predeceased by his infant daughter Mary. Mossie is survived by his wife Mary, daughters Noreen and Brid, sons Mylie and Tommy, sons-in-law John and Eddie, daughters-in-law Sinead and Eilish, grandchildren Rosemary, Aoife, Eamonn, Caoimhe, Muiris, Aideen, Liam, David and Ellemarie, sister-in-law Kathy Flahive, Mary’s brothers-in-law Mike Long and Martin Costello. The Requiem Mass for Mossie was celebrated at 11.30 a.m, in Moyvane Church on Monday 4th , followed by burial afterwards in Ahavoher Cemetery, Moyvane.

Footsteps of Padre Pio”: This pilgrimage will take place from 15 October until 22 October 2023. It will include a return flight from Shannon to Naples. Pilgrims will spend the first night in Avellino and the remaining six nights in San Giovanni Rotondo. The pilgrimage will include a day in Pietrelcina where Padre Pio was born on 25 May 1887 and visits to other places in or near San Giovanni Rotondo where Padre Pio spent the last 52 years of his life before passing away on 23 September 1968 at the age of 81. FREE: Donogh O Malley Minister for Education brought in free secondary education in Sept.1967.

O’ Malley abolished the Primary Certificate examination in 1967. He died on the 10th. March 1968.

RAMBLING House: Ita McQuinn will be hosting her Rambling House on the 3rd Friday of the month in the Desmond Complex and starting back on September 15.

TEA DANCE; A fundraising Tea Dance is planned for Fr. Casey’s on Sunday, September 24 from 3-6pm with dancing to Stevie Donegan. Refreshments and Raffle on the day.

WALK FOR JIM: A walk in remembrance of the late community activist and environmentalist Jim O’Connor, Kilmorna will take place along the Kingdom of Kerry Greenway from Abbeyfeale to Listowel on Sunday, September 24 at 11am. All proceeds are in aid of the Cork Kerry Bus operated by Kerry Cancer Support Group. Donations can be made online via for Jim or on the day.

TRADITIONAL music festival, the Patrick O’Keeffe Traditional Music Festival takes place over five days, from October 26-30.

MILK: Irish grass-fed milk contains more beneficial nutrients than milk from conventional indoor-feeding practices, according to research from Teagasc and Food for Health Ireland (FHI).

The study compares the Irish grass-fed system to what is more commonly operated around the world, whereby cows are housed indoors year round to maximise the quantities of milk produced.
