NANO Nagle Fundraiser at Mairéad’s Bar, Moyvane on Saturday December 22nd at 9.30pm. Music by Gabriel Fitzmaurice and the Bog Hole Boys. Spot prizes on the night.

CHOIR practice in Knockanure Church on Wednesday 19th December at 8pm. This will be our practice for Christmas Eve Mass. All members, please attend. New members welcome.

THANKS: The Christmas Social for Active retired was held on Monday 10th December 2012 at Knockanure Community Centre, A great day was enjoyed by all.

We wish to thank everyone from the surrounding areas for their constant support of this event each month. We thank everyone who gave spot prizes, and also for your generosity. All remaining spot prizes will be used during the New Year. Your generosity is appreciated by all committee members.

CHARITY Walk in aid of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital will be held in Duagh on St Stephens Day starting at 11.30am.

BEST Wishes to Duagh who have been promised E200, 000 grant for their sports complex.

CELTIC Tenors who will be performing in Glin Church on Friday December 21st.

REUNION for the three former secondary schools in Abbeyfeale is being planned from the 15th to the 21st July 2013.

COLLECTION: Annual Sacristan’s Collection Knockanure on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Margaret would like to express her sincere gratitude to the parishioners for their generosity during the year.

LOCAL man Fergus O Keeffe recently constructed a bridge for the Treat Southern Trail near Abbeyfeale, his great grandfather Con got support from the famous Abbeyfeale Priest Fr. Casey in his disagreement with a Landlord.

BEST Wishes to Claire Leahy of Beenanaspig and Johnny Kennelly of Gortaclahane who were married at Listowel Church on 7th December 2012 by Fr Pat Moore assisted by Fr Dillon and Fr O Leary. The Best man was John Molyneaux and the Bridesmaid was Catherina Leahy, Flowergirl was Maeve Cuddigan and the Pageboy was Leo Cuddigan. The bride is daughter of Stephen and Mary Leahy and the grooms parents are Jim and Maura Kennelly.

SCROOGE: Scrooge Theatrix Theatre School present “A Christmas Carol” directed by Jo Jordan and her little helpers at St John’s, Listowel on Wed 19th & Thurs 20th 2012.

RACING at Limerick from 26th to 29th December. The Kingdom Cup will be held at Ballybeggan from 26th to 28th December.

LAUNCH; A great crowd attended the launch of Snapshots of Listowel by Vincent Carmody on Sunday 9th December ’12, it is of great interest locally as several from the parish are mentioned in the book along with photographs of them, also the foreword is written by local  artist Sean Lynch.

LOCALS were prominent singing with the Listowel Choir at a special night of carols and readings held on Sunday December 9th in St Mary’s.

ST PIO Devotions in Lixnaw Church on 18th December.

PAGENT: Christmas Celebration in Knockanure Church on Sunday evening 23rd December from 7.00pm to 8.00pm. The children will be performing the “Nativity Story” Christmas Carols and Hymns, special prayer and reflection this being “The Year of the Faith”. Don’t miss this special evening of spirituality and healing a great way to prepare for the coming of Jesus into our homes and our hearts for Christmas.

JOURNALS: All the local Journals are now available; we will have a feast of reading over the coming weeks.

ST. ITA’S WRENBOYS: Paddy Finucane, is appealing for musicians, dancers, singers and especially drivers to join his band of Wrenboys on St. Stephen’s Day in Abbeyfeale as fundraise for two local Missionaries, Fr. John Moloney and Fr. Tim Galvin.

DEATH took place on December 9th 2012 of Brian Quinn of Hillside Drive, Athea, he worked locally before going to England. Brian died at Milford Hospice. Brian is survived by sisters Mary and Peg, brothers Tim and Sean, following requiem Mass in Athea Church, he was laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery Athea on 11th December 2012.

CAROL Service at the Bons Secours  Hospital Chapel on Thursday 20th Dec. at 7.30pm.

HSE to recruit up to 1,000 graduate nurses and midwives next year. The recruitment drive could save as much as €10 million by reducing the reliance on agency workers and overtime.
It is strange that hospitals are having more appointments, despite the lower number of traffic accidents, higher emigration, more insulated houses and shortage of money reducing excesses.

COSTS: Shannon Airport is a designation as a diversion airport for mechanical and medical emergencies over the North Atlantic, this costs about E2 million per year, it is seldom used. How more designated groups are working in various state departments? Cost of planning, regulations and delays to keep regulators happy is stifling real jobs in this country.

GST will host the first walk along the new route on Thu. 27th December at 2.15pm from the old Abbeyfeale Station. The round trip is 4 miles and refreshments will be provided afterwards at the adjacent Railway Bar, Abbeyfeale. All the faithful supporters of the GST over the past 21 years are cordially invited as are all those who worked so diligently on the new extension and completed the job so quickly. 1786; Proclamation  for discovering and apprehending the persons concerned in setting fire to the house of Edward Leslie, Esq., of Tarbert. Co. Kerry.

The like for apprehending the prisoners confined in the gaol of Tralee, in the County of Kerry, who murdered Patrick Hands, the gaoler thereof, and then made their escape from thence.
