FIRST Communion Class, Gavin, Cian, Ryan, Niamh and Ollie, their
parents, teachers and school choir contributed to a lovely
enrolment ceremony in Knockanure Church on Sunday last Nov. 14th

SVP: St Vincent de Paul works for people in need in 146
countries. This year they are celebrating giving support to
sailors for 100 years, in the first year 1910 volunteers visited
447 ships and 13,179 sailors visited Sailor’s Home in Dublin.
The Irish National President now is Mairead Bushnell. 9,000
volunteers work for SVP in Ireland at present in over 1,100
branches. The President General of SVP was elected recently; he
is from Singapore and the first non-European to be elected to
the position.Calls for help in Dublin have increased by 74%
since 2008 while regional offices have an increase of from 20 to
30% in first time callers. Government income from national taxes
in 2007 was E47.5 billon, this year tax take is expected to net
about E32 billon so greater demand for help is expected.
SVP Week this year is from Dec. 5th to 12th. Vincent de Paul was
captured by pirates from North Africa, got an arrow in his arm
. Chaining their prisoners together the pirates spent a week
attacking boats until they had collected as much as they could
carry and then went to North Africa; he escaped back to France
in June 1607.

DEATH took place on 9th November 2010 of Mary Langford nee
Clifford of
Bansha , Killorglin .Mary is survived by her husband Eddie,
daughters Maura, Helen and Claire and son Richard and brother
Jim. Mary’s deceased siblings were Jack Clifford and Nora
Clifford. Requiem Mass for Mary Langford was celebrated at St.
James’s Church, Killorglin on Thursday 11th November 2010 by
Fr. Liam O’Brien and Fr. John Clifford O.P., Mary was laid to
rest at Dromavalla Cemetery. Mary was born at
Callinafercy, Milltown and was second cousin of Archbishop
Clifford.
DEATH has occurred of Patrick Flavin of Kilmeaney, Kilmorna.
Paddy is survived by his son Denis daughters Catherine and Mary.
He was predeceased by his wife Bridie Lynch over 45 years ago
and his daughter Noreen died over 2 years ago. Requiem Mass for
Paddy Flavin was celebrated in Corpus Christi Church, Knockanure
on Thursday 11th November 2010 by Fr Lucid assisted by Fr
McMahon, Stevie Donegan played the organ and sang the hymns. Fr
Lucid remarked that he was cared for by his family at home to
the end. Paddy Flavin was laid to rest at Ahavoher Graveyard
surrounded by his family, relations, friends and neighbours. The
Family and friends of the Flavin and Lynch family then retreated
to the Community Centre in Knockanure for some refreshments.

attended the Old School in Knockanure which is now the community
Centre. Paddy Flavin was son of Den Flavin and Nora McElligott,
he would be 99 years on Jan. 12th 2011, Paddy had one brother
Jack and a sister Nora in England.
DEATH took place on 8th November 2010 of Liam O Connor of
Rathoran Kilmorna, formerly of Hamilton Road, Wimbledon. Liam
is survived by his
daughters Nuala and Margaret, son Kevin, brother Paddy of
Islandboy, sisters Joan McCarthy in Abbeyfeale and Mary Joe in
Cork. Following Requiem Mass in St. Brigid’s Church Duagh on
Friday 12th of November 2010 Liam O Connor was laid to rest at
Templeathea Churchyard.
DEATH took place on October 25th 2010 of Darragh Hennessy of
Avondale, Kilrush Road, Ennis, and Beechgrove, Listowel. He is
survived by his father Michael and mother Katy and brothers
Shane and Adam. Following Requiem Mass in Ennis Cathedral on
October 29th 2010 Darragh Hennessy was laid to rest at
Drumcliffe Cemetery. His father Michael was born at Kilmeaney,
Kilmorna to Nellie Hennessy nee O Connor and the late Michael
Hennessy.

STRANGE: Doctors said Joseph Nguyen of Colorado was dead. His
heart rate was dropping beyond recovery, and all brain activity
was gone. Now family of Seminarian believe he may owe his life
to Cardinal Van Thuan’s intercession, reported early Nov. 2010.
