UPSET: Many people are upset at the inflated wages of Kenny and Ryan who earn over E12,000 for every week of the year, whether they are working or idle. The director General of RTE is given E 441,000 for his title.

GREAT to hear that the Presentation and Mercy Sisters are to be commemorated shortly in Listowel by a special sculpture, we must never forget the Trojan work that these dedicated women did for us in hard times.

WALK: Carers held their International walk in Jordan this year from 23rd to 31st of October`09, among the walkers was local woman Margaret Carmody. The highlight of the trek was a visit to the Rose Red City of Petra which was carved out of the rock 2,000 years ago. Other sights include Jerash an old Roman City, a Mosque, Jordan where John baptised, the Dead Sea where you could float, Crusaders castles, 4.000 year old rock drawings and the place where Moses was buried.

DANCE: The 25th annual dance hosted by Newcastle West and District Friends of Milford Hospice will take place on Friday, November 20th at the Devon Inn, Templeglantine, with music by James O’Callaghan.

PLAYER: David Goulding is a member of the Ballyduff Minor Football team that defeated Tarbert in the final of the Division 2 North Kerry Minor Football Championship at Finuge last month. Both parents of David Goulding were born in the Parish.

KERRYMAN extracts; November 13th 1909, Marriage at Killorglin Church of Dr. Michael O Sullivan of the Square, Listowel and Mollie C O Sullivan daughter of the late Michael O Sullivan and Mrs D O Donovan of the Square Killorglin. Rev. M. McCarthy O Connor P.P. Ballymacelligott uncle of the groom officiated, assisted by four other priests, the bride was attended by her cousins Monica McCrohan and Mai Curtayne , the groom was attended by Dr. McNamara, after the reception the couple left in a motor car for Dublin, then travelled to London, Rome and Switzerland. Concert was held at the Temperance Hall in Newtownsandes under the auspices of the Sacred Heart Total Abstinence League on Sunday last, the Rev. P Garvey Presided, also present were Rev T >J. LyneC.C. Newtownsandes and the Rev. P.J. Brennan C.C. Duagh, the hall was crowded and abstainers were prominent. Fr Garvey in his powerful rich baritone sang the Wests Asleep, Miss Broderick sang Romany Lass, Fr Brennan sang When You and I are Dead, six little children sang Down in a Deep and Shady Bed, they were trained by Mrs O Callaghan. Other songs, My Old Kentucky Home Good Night and Home Sweet Home. Miss Annie Nolan sang Aileen Alannah. Priests sang, I Saw from the Beach. Misses May O Callaghan and Ellie Kearney sang A Little Tin Soldier. Four year old Nora O Callaghan brought the house down when she sang, There is a nice little Clock .Messrs Cronin and Casey of Knockanure contributed greatly with their Gramophone and Messrs Connor and Lynch exhibited step dancing. Lighting was by 100 candlepower lamp presented to the society by Mr J. McKenna of Listowel. Mr Keating presented the staging. The completion and equipment of the hall was principally due to Tom P Culhane Sec. Timothy Scanlon of Leitrim, Dan O Connor, Maurice Walsh, Pat Bunce, John Moloney, Joseph Enright, Dan Keating, Michael Garvey, John O Connor, John O Connor Junior, and John Mahony. A concert was held at Castledrum, it started at 4.45pm and Fr T O Shea Presided. Died in New York Michael Francis Morrissey aged 56 years leaving a wife Hanora O Mahony and four children, they had a dry goods store at Allentown, PA and later in New York, Hanora was sister of John O Mahony of Brosna.

DEATH took place on November 8th of Margaret Deenihan, nee O Connor of Dooncaha, Tarbert, she was predeceased by her husband Stephen and children Michael and Agnes. Margaret Deenihan is survived by sons John, Stephen and Anthony, daughters Mary, Hannah, Liz, Helen and Margaret, following Requiem Mass at Tarbert Church on Wednesday November 11th, Margaret Deenihan was laid to rest at Kilnaughtin Cemetery, Tarbert. Margaret was born at Trieneragh Duagh. DEATH took place of Mary Kennelly of Glashnacree, and late of Lyrecrompane and Enfield, London. Requiem Mass at Lyrecrompane Church on Tuesday November 10th `09. was offered for Mary Kennelly who was laid to rest in Springmount Cemetery, Duagh following Mass.

DEATH took place on November 11th `09 of Grace Mary Brosnan, nee Normoyle of Knocknagorna, Athea, late of Carrigkerry and Flax Bourton, Somerset. Grace Mary is survived by her husband Pat son Sean, daughters, Sheila Walsh, Breda Burr and Tina Andrews , Following Requiem Mass at Athea Church on Saturday November 14th `09, celebrated by Fr Bowen, Fr Mullane and Canon Kelly Grace Mary Brosnan was laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery, Athea, her husband Pat said a few words at the graveside.

DEATH took place on November 2nd `09 in his 98th year, of Geoffrey Hartnett of Killarney Road, Abbeyfeale, husband of the late Mina Wren of Tarbert; survived by his daughters Mary, Joanne and Margaret, son Mike, brother Ned in Kanturk .Following Requiem Mass at the Church of the Assumption, Abbeyfeale on Thursday November 5th Geoffrey Hartnett was laid to rest at Reilig =CDde Naofa, Abbeyfeale. He was born at Knockatoon, Rockchapel, came to Abbeyfeale as a driver for O Neill’s Bakery later delivered milk from house to house. Mina’s sister was married to Reidy with the garage in Abbeyfeale.

DEATH took place recently in London of Ellen Houlihan nee Ahern, both her parents were Ahern and natives of Moyvane, Ellen and her husband Johnny lived in Moyvane before going to England. Ellen Houlihan who was in her 90’s was predeceased by her husband Johnny and is survived by her children and Sister Nora Roche of Moyvane.

SUDDEN Death of Billy Heffernan of the Hell Road Knockanure took place on November 13th `09, he was son of Patrick Heffernan and Nell Keane, his siblings include Joe, Mary Ann, Tom and Mike, Funeral arrangements later.

DEATH took place on Saturday November 14th `09 of Tom Meehan of Balla, Clonoulty, Co. Tipperary at the age of 78 years, he is survived by his wife Teresa, children Eilish and Liam, his on D. J predeceased him following an accident in April `09. Tom is survived by sisters Kit, Liz and Joan and was predeceased by brothers Dan, Bill, Denis and Paddy. Tom Meehan was son of Tom and Elizabeth Meehan of Kilmorna.

DEATH: Camillo Cibin who died on October 25th `09 was aged 83, is survived by his wife, Maria, and their three children, was a Knight Commander of the Order of St Gregory the Great. He was the papal bodyguard who caught Mehmet Ali Agca who was being held by a nun and others after trying to assassinate Pope John Paul 11 on May 13th 1981,in 1982 he was also involved in saving the Pope at Fatima from an attack. His Parish Priest encouraged him to join the papal guards.
