PARISH: 2nd Collection at all Masses on 11th & 12th Mar. for Emigrant Services. The funds raised in churches all over Ireland allows the Irish Church to offer essential support to those organisations providing pastoral, practical outreach to the most marginalised and vulnerable groups of Irish people living abroad, many of whom are living lives of quiet desperation.

DEATH of Martin Mulvihill, College Lawn, Listowel and late of Leitrim East, Moyvane, on March 2nd, 2023. Brother of the late Eddie and Eilish. Martin is survived by his wife Hannah, daughter Anna, grandchildren Debbie, Tommy, Conor and his wife Holly, great-grandchildren Thomas, Oliver and CJ, brothers John and Tommy, sister Maura, son-in-law Tom, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, and nieces. Requiem Mass for Martin was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Listowel, on Monday morning, followed by burial afterwards in St. John Paul II Cemetery.

DEATH of Marie Sweeney (neé O’Connell), Tarmons, and formerly of Dublin, on March 6th 2023, wife of the late Martin. Survived by sons Gerard, David and John, daughter Fiona, daughters in law Clare, Lisa, Maria, brother Nicholas, grandchildren Conor, James, Daniel, Jack, Kate and Rose, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, and nieces. Requiem Mass for Marie was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Tarbert, on Thursday. Interment in St. Mary’s New Cemetery, Tarbert.

DEATH on February 18th 2023, aged 96 years of Dorothy O’Sullivan of Melbourn, Bishopstown, Cork / Born Main Street Tarbert. (Rtd. Teacher of Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh Boys’ School), sister of Sally Riordan and the late Lila Carroll, Listowel, Una Hurley and Tom Buckley. Survived by nieces and nephews; Maurice, Olive, Pamela and John (Carroll), Michael, Diarmuid, Pádraig, Ferghal and Maria (Riordan), Miriam and Robert (Hurley), Dympna and Thomas (Buckley), brothers-in-law Brendan and Pat, cousins, grandnephews, grandnieces. Dorothy taught at Kilbaha School and was highly regarded.

EVENTS: Ballydonoghue Bardic Festival, Lisselton: 23rd – 26th March 2023.

The 2023 festival seeks to honour the memory of Pádraig Liath Ó Conchubhair, who was born in Lisselton in the parish of Ballydonoghue in 1745 and died around 1820. He was a Hedge Schoolmaster, Poet and renowned Academic who established The Lisselton Bardic Court, known as ‘Cúirt na Súagh’, The Court of the Wise. Walk in Athea; Step to the Beat is a designated hour each Thursday from 6.30pm – 7.30pm during lent, where music will play over a sound system around the perimeter of the GAA track.

The Wander Wild Festival takes place in Killarney National Park from March 24-26th.

TG4; Dara Ó Cinnéide will present a TV series where he visits some sports stadiums, including Anfield in Liverpool the Azteca in Mexico, Seoul’s Olympic Stadium and Fitzgerald Stadium. Begins on Thursday, March 23rd at 9.30pm on TG4.

BALLYBUNION CCE are holding a concert in St. Joseph’s Secondary school on Thursday 16th March at 7 p.m. All welcome. Fleadh Cheoil Chiarrai being held in Ballybunion June 9th to 18th.
