Knockanure Family Fun Day has been postponed due to unforeseeable circumstances and will be rescheduled at a later date.

On August 21st 1879, fifteen people had a vision of Our Lady, St. Joseph, St. John on the gable of the parish church of Knock.

HERITAGE WEEK TALK: Kerry Writers’ Museum in Listowel will host a talk on the ‘Heritage & History of the North Kerry Greenway’ on Friday August 18th from 8pm. Historian Tom Dillon will present a lecture on the newly-opened stretch of the Kingdom of Kerry Greenway from Listowel to Abbeyfeale. Knocknagoshel Tidy Towns and Cathy Eastman of Biodiversity Partners will host a family friendly biodiversity walk and talk at 11am at Aggie’s Inch in Knockbrack, Knocknagoshel, V92F9X8.

I spent a day walking around Galway City and only found one drinking water fountain, hidden in a park.

BINGO Moyvane; coming to bingo to please think about where you park your car. For the last two nights cars have been causing an obstruction and people have had to leave bingo to move their cars. One other thing, the crowds are big right now and there is a problem with people who come late so can you fill the seats and leave space for others. If you have a handbag you might park it under your seat. Thank you. Did you know that the prize money at bingo every Thursday night is a minimum €3,000 but it could be as high as €5,000. Bingo starts at 8.00pm. Thank you for your support.

CELEBRATION OF LIGHT CEREMONY – Tralee Bay Wetlands will once again provide the backdrop for this year’s Celebration of Light Ceremony, organised annually by cancer support charity – Recovery Haven Kerry. This year’s event will take place on Sunday, August 20th at 7pm and aims to unite those touched by cancer and remember those we have lost. All welcome and candles will be for sale on the night.

JOBS: Accenture cutting 890 Irish jobs, after 400 layoffs it made earlier this year. It is reported that jobs are moving to other parts of the world. Accenture plc is an Irish-American professional services company based in Dublin, specializing in information technology.

TOADS: Two hundred natterjack toadlets were released in Castlegregory recently. They were reared in a conservation project between the National Parks and Wildlife Service and Fota Wildlife Park.

The natterjack can have a high mortality rate of 90% in the wild.

IRISH Words: The Dictionary and Lost Irish Words

From September to December this year in Australia, you can see a stage adaptation of the acclaimed novel The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams. The novel is an account of a young girl’s effort save words that had been excluded by the first Oxford English Dictionary compilers in 1886.
