QUIZ: Fancy a Fun Night out? Scoil Chorp Chríost Parents’ Association, Knockanure are holding a Pub Quiz in Flynns Bar, Knockanure on Friday March 2nd 2012. Tables of 4 – 20 euro. Starting at 9.30 pm, sharp! All welcome.

ELDERLY: North Kerry Day Care Centre, Listowel runs a service for older people in the North Kerry area.  The day includes transport, morning tea/coffee, full lunch, activities and gentle exercises with nurse support.  If you are interested in attending, please contact Isabel on 087 9080124.

GARDA: A Public Meeting on the Closure of The Garda Barracks in Moyvane & Ballylongford will be held on Wednesday 22nd February in the Assembly Hall in Tarbert Comprehensive School.  Senior Garda Representatives will be in Attendance.

BOOK donated by John R Dillon dated, 1923 to Minnesota Genealogical Society had the following inscription, hand written on it, Joan Daly Kearney born Listowel, Co Kerry about 1808, her mother Nora Barrett, her father a contractor , she had sisters Margaret and Mary, brothers Dave and Tom stayed in Ireland, brothers Darby and John deceased. Two of Dave’s daughters made trip to Illinois. Two of John’s sons Jerry and Dave are Judges in New Mexico and held commissions during the Spanish American War .Thomas Francis Carney born Listowel 6th Sept 1818, his mother Mary Connors, sister Mary remained in Ireland, brother Con went to America , reportedly killed by Indians around Pikes Peak, Colorado.

MISSING Friends, 1859 advertisements in the Boston Pilot, Joan Cleary was seeking info on her brother John Cleary of Kilmeaney, details to Mrs Holland Cincinnati. Also searching for John Cleary in 1858 was Joan Walsh, details to John P Walsh of Cincinnati and Joan Cleary was looking for Tom Walsh in 1859 ; John Langan of Knockanure was at New Haven his brother Tom in Xenia Green was searching for him 1854; John Moore was seeking information on his brother in law  Maurice Relihan of Kilmeaney who was in NY in 1850 and Savannah in 1852; Catherine Doran searching for Mgt Murphy 1850, details to James Stack PA, Phili; Francis Green wanted information on his son John of Kilmeaney, arrived 1855, details to David Fitzgerald, DC English Hill and John Mulvihill was seeking information on  friend Tim Thornton of Knockanure in 1867, he arrived in 1850.

DEATH took place recently of Mary Fitzmaurice nee Hayes 5, Plas Horace Plunkett, Ballyhahill, Co. Limerick, and formerly of Glenalappa, Moyvane. Mary is survived by her brother Pat in the USA, nephews, nieces and extended family. Requiem Mass for Mary Fitzmaurice was celebrated at Church of the Visitation, Ballyhahill on Tuesday 14th February 2012, she was laid to rest  in Ahavoher Cemetery, Knockanure beside her husband Tom and sister in law Nora, both of them died aged 83 years.

DEATH took place suddenly of Jim Fitzmaurice, Sutton, Dublin and late of Moyvane, on February 15, 2012. Jim is survived by his wife Marian, children Eoghan, Niall and Aoife,  brothers Sean, Brendan, Mícheal, Eamonn, Jody and Gerry, sisters Christina and Ann was predeceased by sister Bríde. Requiem Mass for Jim Fitzmaurice was celebrated at St. Fintan’s Church, Sutton, followed by Burial in Fingal Cemetery, Malahide Road. Dublin. Jim was son of the late Edward and Kit Fitzmaurice of Leitrim Middle, Kit died November 2011.

DEATH: Sister Patricia O’Brien of Convent of Mercy, Westbourne, Ashbourne Avenue, Late of Abbeyfeale, died February 10th 2012, Survived by Sisters Breda, Kathleen, Helen, brother Hugh, her Mercy Communities, relatives, friends, former colleagues and pupils from St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Abbeyfeale.Following Requiem Mass at St Joseph’s Church on Monday February 13th 2012 Sr. Patricia O Brien was laid to rest in St Mary’s Convent Cemetery, Old Dominic Street, Limerick. Sr. Patricia O’Brien was born in Limerick city in the parish of St. Joseph, entered Abbeyfeale Convent on December 8, 1960 and made her final profession on August 22, 1966. She studied at UCC where she obtained a BA and H Dip in Education and later a Diploma in Catechetic. Sr. Patricia taught at St. Joseph’s Secondary School Abbeyfeale from 1971 to 2008.

DIED Feb. 2012, Florence Green, from King’s Lynn, Norfolk, world’s last known surviving service member of World War I has died aged 110.

STATIONS of the Cross on Thursday after 7.30pm Mass.  Please come and make this a prayerful journey for lent.  The Liturgy Group will lead us in the Way of the Cross.

CHURCH: At a meeting of the area Pastoral Council on January 31st, 2012 (Listowel, Duagh, Lixnaw and Moyvane).  It was decided to look at the training of members of the laity within the Parishes in performing liturgical services and the reception of remains.  An information night will take place at St. Patrick’s hall, Listowel on Monday 26th March, 2012 at 8pm and if you are interested in attending the information night please forward your name, address and contact details to your Parish Priest/Parish Secretary
