SOCIAL Day: Please note change of date for the next active retirement day at Knockanure Community Centre. The next social day for the active retired takes place on Monday 5th September. HUNT is on for All Ireland tickets after Kerry’s win on Sunday last.

CARBOOT Sale in Listowel on Saturday last attracted a great variety of sellers ,a box of books on railways was a real treasure for railway enthusiasts.

ROSE Festival, several were disappointed that the ticket booking office was out of town. The Road Safety Authority had a very expensive outfit at a quiet corner of the Town Park. The atmosphere in the streets on Saturday last, was great, something for everyone, food, crafts, bands and lovely weather.

KNOCK: A bus load of pilgrims from the district were at Knock Shrine on Thursday last 18th Aug. 2011. The weather and pilgrimage left no room for complaint. Many were there for The Knock Novena which originally began 1977 in preparation for the Knock Centenary. From 1982 two sessions of the Novena were held, with a procession in the afternoon. An impressive procession was held on Thursday last Aug 18th 2011. The sermon, Changing Role of the Priest was read on behalf of Fr Harry Bohan , who was unable to attend himself. Many visit Knock and do not realise that the Daughters of Charity came there in 1931 to care for the elderly and sick, they have accommodation for 70 pilgrims. St Vincent de Paul have facilities at Knock also. The first pilgrimage of the Polish community in Ireland to Knock took place in Sept. 2006. Ryanair began flights from Knock Airport in 1986 and at the time pessimists predicted the downfall of both. Knockanure pilgrimage to Knock, organised by Margaret and Nuala Carmody was held on Wed. July 6th 2011.  A big new café added to Knock Museum was opened recently Aug. 2011 and parking space nearby is being developed.

DEATH took place recently of Micky Mulhern of Carrowreagh, Bridgend, Donegal, father of Kathy Finucane of Knockanure. Following Requiem Mass at St. Mary’s Church, Cockhill, Micky Mulhern was laid to rest in the nearby cemetery on Tuesday 9th August 2011.

DEATH of John Paul Diggin of Kilmore, Ballyduff took place on August 5th 2011. Requiem mass for John Paul Diggin was celebrated at S.S Peter& Paul Church, Ballyduff on August 8th, he was laid to rest at Rahela Cemetery. John Paul Diggin was father of Carmel Hudson of Kilbaha.

NUN aged 103 Sister Teresita has been a resident at a convent near Madrid since April 16, 1927, the day that Joesph Ratzinger was born,  she met Pope Benedict XVI who is attending the WYD.
