RECYCLE mobile phones and batteries to help the Jack and Jill Foundation, Knockanure National School Scoil Chorp Chriost now have a collection point, items can be brought to the school between 1pm and 3pm on school days. Stamps are also collected by the school.

ST PIO prayer meeting this month in Listowel will be held on Thursday 25th starting at 7.15, all are welcome.

FUEL: Properly inflated tires can improve fuel efficiency by 3.3 percent and save $.06 a gallon at the pump, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Approximately 1.2 billion gallons of fuel are wasted each year by U.S. motorists driving on under-inflated tires. Under-inflated tires also pose a safety risk. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that under-inflated tires contribute to more than 600 fatalities and 33,000 injuries each year in the US.

Congratulation and best wishes to Canon Seamus Linnane Parish Priest of Listowel on the 50th anniversary of his ordination. A special Mass to mark the occasion was concelebrated in Listowel Church by Canon Linnane assisted by a large number of Priests on Friday last June 19th `09, Feast of the Sacred Heart. The Listowel Choirs sang several O Riada hymns. Following Mass presentations were made to the Canon at the Arms Hotel where he was surrounded by his family and friends. Canon Linnane was born at Ballydonoghue, Lisselton, educated at Coolard N.S., St Michael’s Listowel, St Brendan’s Killarney and ordained at Maynooth in June 1959, he served in Wales for a year, then continued his studies in Maynooth before teaching at St Brendan’s and St Michael’s , Duagh was his first Parish and he was transferred to Listowel in 1996. The contribution of Canon Linnane .P.P. V.F. and his family to society is worthy of our grateful thanks.

STACK: Tom Stack was married in Carrueragh Kilmorna to Mary Neville of Carrigkerry . They had three sons the eldest born on Christmas night 1849 was called Thomas Neville Stack . The second son Maurice Tom Stack married Mary Goulding their children were Tom Maurice and John Maurice, Tom inherited the farm while John went to America the third brother of Tom Neville Stack was called William he got a farm in Carrigkerry .Mai Quinlivnans mother Ellie Stack was daughter of Maurice Tom Stack a brother of Tom Neville , her father Michael Quinlivan was of Blossom Hill Rathkeale , Co Limerick . Tom Neville Stack Founded The Finance Union Journal in 1877 .It is reported that three generations before Tom Neville a member of the Stack family was a Butter Merchant in Cork who had a brother a Banker .Another Stack Nicholas Moore Stack a man of culture and an actor taught at Maynooth and Carlow College .Tom Neville himself was a Journalist a Financier and a Poet his second wife was a daughter of Mr Andrew Thunder of Dublin .Mr Thunder went to Clongroves Wood College . He died aged 45yrs .Mr and Mrs Stack were married for over 20yrs and had five children. In 1895 Tom Neville Stack was one of the Founders of the British Homes Assurance Corporation Ltd. He was also an Officer in the 2nd London Rifles which was founded by Prince Albert .Tom Neville Stacks views on Irish Banking are contained in the Blue Book which was issued by a committee of the House of Commons.

DEATH took place recently of Donal Mulvihill of Derry, Listowel in Dubai following a car crash of, he was son of Brian and Ellen Mulvihill and was aged 27 years.
