SAINT PIO Prayer meeting will take place on Thursday 26th January  at 7pm. incorporating the Rosary, Mass and Benediction, mitten of Padre Pio will be at the Prayer Meeting.

THANKS: The Senior Citizens Committee would like to thank everyone who made our Christmas party so enjoyable. The Newtownsandes Co-Op for sponsorship of the Band and the Development Committee for the wine and all the local Business people who gave spot Prizes. We would also like to thank those who provided entertainment on the day. We wish you all a happy and healthy New Year.

Kieran Gallagher of Kada Kaboom Arts presents an outreach series of Drumming/Percussion/Music appreciation workshops for 10 local schools; Wed 25th Sarah Savoy And The Francadians, A  four-piece Cajun dance band from Louisiana playing Country & Bluegrass on Fiddle, Base, Guitar, Button Accordion, Washboard and Saxaphone; Thurs 26th , Shortcut To Hallelujah , A hysterical drama set during the run up to the Mayo/Kerry All-Ireland Football Final, The play was written by Mick Donnellan and is presented by Truman Town Theatre, Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo. WRITING: Over 200 pages of creative writing by students from Kerry Education Service Schools is between the cover of O Mo Peann Fein, it is well worth a browse, Gabriel Fitzmaurice was writer in Residence at Gaelcholaiste Chiarrai. Students from Listowel who contributed include, Megan Fealey, Celine Leahy, Jonathan Casey, Hattie Du Praz, Gavin Stack Emma Ryan and Jack barrett.

ATHEA Journal 2011, number 23 contains as usual many articles of interest to the wider community outside Athea. Dr Kieran Murphy talks about the HSE and the cut that does not bleed, among his remarks, he observes patients being carried around in ambulances for treatment miles from their homes, one improvement is the reduction of deaths from Heart attacks are down from 54% in the 70s to 36% at present, closure of respite units and new units not opened because of staff embargo. Athea Drama Group, GAA, Athea UTD, Athea Golf, Community Games and Comhaltas organisations are well covered.  Pat Brosnan recalls working in England and dancing in Derby in the 1950s. George Lanagan continues with his album and gives insight into the Lynch Family tree, Grorge also has poetry and pays tribute to fellow poet Paddy Faley who died Oct. 2011.Paddy is also remembered by Peg Prendeville. THOUGHT: Robert Moore author believes that the Weakling and Tyrant shadows work in tandem with each other. It’s very rare that a man is ruled by one and not the other. Underneath every blustering Tyrant is a scared Weakling. And underneath every cowering Weakling is a Tyrant waiting to explode.

DEATH took place recently in Chicago of Jim Kennelly of Moneen, Lisselton, he is survived by siblings, Paddy at home and Eileen O Grady in Chicago and was predeceased by John in England, Mary B Dillon in Ballybunion and Sr. Anne Maria of the Presentation Convent in Lixnaw.

DEATH on 12th December 2011 of  Sr. Mary Kevin (Josephine) Enright of Holy Child Convent, Stable Lane, Off Harcourt Street (formerly of Tarbert, remembered by her Holy Child Sisters, her family, sisters Aquin and Rosalie (MSHR), Margaret (Buckley) and Breda (Cronin), brothers Jerry, Danny and Tommy, Sr. Enright was predeceased by her brothers Fr. Tim C.S.Sp. and Jimmy. Funeral Mass was celebrated on 14th December 2011 in the Carmelite Church, Whitefriar Street, followed by Burial in Deansgrange Cemetery.
