DEATH of William Moloney, Keylod, Moyvane, on March 9th, 2023, at St. Catherine’s Nursing Home, Newcastle West. Predeceased by his parents Michael and Bridget, sister Johanna, brothers Michael and Patrick.William is survived by his brother Tom, brother-in-law Brian, sister-in-law Christina, nephews Johnny, Michael, Brian, Thomas and Michael, his exceptional carer Mary Griffin, cousins, extended family, neighbours and friends. Requiem Mass for William was celebrated at The Church of the Assumption, Moyvane, on the 11th March, followed by burial afterwards in Ahavoher Cemetery, Moyvane.

DEATH of Tommy Moran (Red Cow Moran Hotel & Inn – Rathfarnham, Dublin and Athea, Limerick) – March 12, 2023, husband of Sheila and father of Tommy, Karen, Tracey, Michael, Stephen, Brendan and the late Sean. Missed by his sisters Mary, Joan, Helen and brother Michael. Also missed by his son-in-law Thor, daughters-in-law Sarah, Tina, Geri, Laura, 20 grandchildren – Ben, Charlotte, Abi, Trudy, Leon, Beth, Ellie, Noah, Meghan, Max, Erik, Oscar, Kamen, Maya, Alice, Stella, Yana, Nesa, Paddy, George, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, extended family, his colleagues and many friends. FESTIVAL: Ballydonoghue Bardic Festival, Lisselton: 23rd – 26th March. The 2023 festival seeks to honour the memory of Pádraig Liath Ó Conchubhair, who was born in Lisselton in the parish of Ballydonoghue in 1745 and died around 1820. He was a Hedge Schoolmaster, Poet and renowned Academic who established The Lisselton Bardic Court, known as ‘Cúirt na Súagh’, The Court of the Wise. FIT: 5 Exercises to Keep an Aging Body Strong and Fit

SPRING Clean; In 2022, 5,640 groups registered to carry out clean-ups throughout the country – Volunteers who participated in the Spring Clean 2022 collected an estimated 2,600 tonnes of litter.

HACKNEY; The Local Hackney Pilot grant aid is designed to contribute towards the fixed costs associated with providing this part-time service. Up to €6,000 will be payable over one year. Nobody in Abbeyfeale area availed of the grant. Who would provide a service with all the restrictions involved. It seems to be designed by officials, who wanted failure.

LENTEN TALK: Mickey Harte, former Tyrone football manager, Louth manager at present, will give a Lenten talk in Killarney Oaks Hotel in Wednesday March 22nd at 7.30pm. R.I.P. The Athea GAA Club offered their sympathies to the Moran family on the recent passing of Tommy Moran R.I.P. Tommy was a very proud Athea man, supporting many community projects within the parish and beyond. Sinn Fein collected in some cases, receipts destroyed for fear of Police. Daniel Ryan friend of Michael Collins buried. Listowel Sub-Committee got letter from L. G Department declining to sanction the appointment of Dr. Roger O Connor as M.O for Ballyhorgan, the Doctor spent a considerable time in interment.

23 July 1923, Tralee Sat night; Cheering crowds welcome President Cosgrove and Party. Guard of honour and reception committee in Listowel. President greeted by townspeople and a bouquet of damask and tea roses was presented by Mrs Crowley wife of Mr Crowley TD. Mr Lynch said it was a pleasure and joy to see the welcome the first President of the Free State got. President Cosgrove was met at the railway station on his way to Tralee by an enormous crowd, which gave him an enthusiastic ovation. Mr James Crowley TD and Mr J Collins chairman of the Urban Council presented an address of welcome; Mr D H Leane from Cumann na n-Gaeheal and Mr O Connor from Newtownsandes offered a loyal and encouraging address on behalf of his area.
