OFFICIAL Opening of the extension to Knockanure Scoil Chorp
Chriost attracted a large crowd on Friday evening last May 18th
2012. Chairman of the board of management opened the proceedings
and the principal Julieann Donegan recalled recent improvements
and introduced Eoin Liston a man with a bag of trophies, Eoin
encouraged and complemented the school and pupils before
officially opening the extension. There was plenty of
refreshments available for all on the evening. Thanks to the
bakers, servers and all who provided equipment for the occasion.
The Board of Management, Teachers, stewards and cleaners deserve
our appreciation. Jackie McMahon was the only Knockanure man who
worked on the building of the New Knockanure N.S, others who
worked include Pats Doody, Paud McElligott of Lixnaw,Matt
Broderick, Kilcara, Fitzgibbon brothers did the stonework.

TALK and slide show on Eucharistic Miracles was given by Andrew
Kellighan in Moyvane on Wed. last, it was an informative
evening, we head also the story of finding the penal chalice in
a sod of turf at Duagh presbytery, the small chalice was on
show. This Wednesday night 23rd May, the focus will be on the
Real Presence.
QUEEN of the May Procession took place at Corpus Christi Church,
Knockanure on Sunday 20th May, 2012 from 2.20pm to 3.30pm. A day
of Devotion, Benediction, Music and Hymns. Taking part were Fr
Lucid, Fr O Callaghan and Fr McMahon, the Knockanure Choir.
Music by Maire Begley O’Shea, Kieran Flavin and Stevie Donegan.
First communion class also took part. This years first communion
class were, J J, Emmet, Darragh, Reece, Thomas, Katie and
Rachel. Thanks to the Sacristan, Margaret and helpers for
organising the day. Following the church ceremonies, people
retired to the Community Centre to support fundraising Afternoon
Dance for Chernobyl Children.
Parents and friends also had a great day in Listowel with stalls
and music in brilliant sunshine.

HOSPITAL: Several locals are in hospital, we wish them a speedy
recovery. Long stay elderly folk are always waiting for our
visit, now with new regulations, they are literally locked in
for the rest of the days and when you enquire are any locals
here, staff are not able to answer.

to view and photograph the luxury liner” Silver Whisper” which
docked at Foynes last week. It brings back memories of the men
who cycled from the Parish to see the Flying Boats.

RACING: June 3rd, official round of the motor cross grass track
championship race will be held in Billy Riordan’s farm in
Tullig. Templeglantine On the day Practice is at 12 noon and

BISHOP Henry Vincent Marshall
The only Irish born Bishop of Salford, born in Listowel, on 19th
July 1884. Ordained priest in 1908, he held various posts in the
diocese of Salford before becoming parish priest of St Anne’s,
Ancoats, and Vicar General to Bishop Henshaw. His consecration
as bishop on 21st September 1939, just as the Second World War
was beginning. He died on 14th April 1955. He is buried in St
Joseph’s Cemetery, Moston.
BIOBLITZ: Glengarriff got top rankings in Bioblitz 2012 which
was held over 24 hours this weekend. Competing against three
other centres nationally Glengarriff had a score of 1020
recorded species which was almost double the score from Phoenix
Park Dublin this year and compares with 1088 achieved by
Killarney National Park in 2011.

DEATH took place on May 14, 2012 of Jeremiah Scannell of
Dromin, Listowel. Son of Paddy Scannell and Margaret Broderick
who came from Duagh. Jeremiah is survived by his brothers
Michael and Pat, sisters Evelyn and Mary, his brother John
predeceased him. Following Requiem Mass at St. Mary’s Church,
Listowel on May 17th, Jeremiah was laid to rest with generations
of Scannell and Kennelly families in St Michael Churchyard,
Listowel.
