SR. CULHANE: The Adventures of Sr M. Juliana Culhane in July 1922, Part 1
by Fiona Fullam SSL, coordinator The scene – in St Louis Convent,
Louisville, Monaghan. I was a boarder there from 1919 to 1922. I came
with an inlaw of my Auntie’s, Maria Brosnan, a sister of Con Brosnan –
the famous Kerry footballer. I loved the place. The Sisters were very
kind to us. Sr M. Laurentia was the Mistress of Schools then. At that
time there was Junior, Middle, and Senior Grade (in the Inter Exams).
I did Middle Grade in June 1922. The times, due to the 1922 Civil War,
were very disturbed.

HATRED: We all have our Manichaean hatred triggers. But the
Incarnation provides a safety switch. The same God who unites heaven
and earth teaches us to see His image in those we are tempted to
despise. When we find ourselves preoccupied with “murderous Manichaean
thoughts,” it may be time to sit quietly before the tabernacle, where
the vigil lamp burns before the presence of the living God, Jesus
Christ, the Word made flesh.

RENT: The paradoxical result is that New York’s rental market has
become more expensive. As NYC has elected Zohran Mamdani, an advocate
for more interventions into the housing market, as the city’s next
mayor, these policies need to be reviewed. As Figure 1 shows, median
rents in Manhattan have risen between 21% and 25% across neighborhoods
since 2015.

MUSIC: In her hour long presentation “The Neuroscience of Sacred

Music can also help prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s disease, which,
in up to 95% of cases, can be driven by nongenetic factors, including
obesity, high blood pressure, smoking, deafness, brain injury, and
social isolation.

PC: The most convincing argument to get someone to care about energy
use is when it hurts their bottom line. So it very much matters that
your 1000W gaming PC is guzzling juice from the wall when energy costs
are going up. There are many reasons why US power costs are soaring
(via CNBC), but the glut of power-hungry AI data centers are getting
much of the blame–fairly or not.
The reason why is perhaps less important than the fact that running a
500W to 1000W device is expensive, and it’s only getting more costly
as time goes by.
