COMHALTAS:  Moyvane / Knockanure Comhaltas Anybody interested in taking part in Ceol an Gheimhridh Competitions in Tralee on the weekend of Sat. 13th and Sun. 14th November should contact Bridget McCarthy at 068 49489 after 6.00pm. Entries no later than Tuesday 26th October. Two categories only U 13 and 13 – 17 years. The A.G.M. takes place on Saturday 30th October at the Marian Hall at 8.30pm. All are welcome.

COMMUNITY Centre Knockanure  has now acquired a Defibrillator. The committee is requesting volunteers to train in the use of this life saving equipment. If you are interested please contact Mary at the centre on 068 49799 between 9.30am and 1.00pm, Mon. to Fri.

SUMMER Time ends on Oct. 31st. So far this year we are having wonderful weather, grass is still growing and land is in good condition.

FESTIVAL in Moyvane last weekend included  “The Boro Buffet”, “The Vintage Rally” with Craft Fair & County Market; Youth Club Walk, Dog Show  and Variety Concert ; Hunt; U16 County Champions Feale Rangers V Shannon Rangers, Charity Match North. Kerry V West Limerick and Rambling House. Sunday last was a wonderful sunny day, crowds were at the Vintage and Dog Show, it was a great Parish Day where anyone who wanted to meet locals and support and view work of local artists and artisans had every opportunity.

BEST Wishes to Sabrina Waugh and Joachim Woods who were married at St Patrick’s Church Bandon on Saturday last October 23rd 2010. The reception was held at Dromhall Hotel Killarney. Joachim is son of Ann Flynn and Jerry Woods of Knockanure Village.

HEADSTONES; The Glasnevin Trust is appealing for the relatives of 43 Irish men and women who fought in passed wars and are buried in unmarked graves in Glasnevin to come to an unveiling ceremony on Remembrance Day, November 11th.

USA Army; Ferdinand Edwin De Courcy, born 12/24/1836 in Ballylongford Kerry; died 3/28/1912 Private Corporal and Sergeant K company Second Infantry 22 December 1857 to 22 June 1861 Second Lt. 13 Infantry 14 May 1861 First Lt 24 Oct. 1861. Regimental Adjutant 1st Oct 1862 to 12 Nov 1864. Captain 21st  November 1865 Retired with rank of Major 24 Feb 1891.

John Driscoll born 1837 in Kerry entered Army as a drummer boy at age 12 in 1849, Private corporal Sergeant and First Sergeant A company First Artillery 12 June 1855 to 28 June 1864 Second Lt. Second Infantry 7 June 1864 transferred to First Artillery 22 August 1864 first Lt. 1 December 1865 Mustered out 5 December 1870

WAR 1; Captain Jerome Walsh – Disembarked 24th  Sep. 1919 -, France – Catholic Chaplain. Ref. Public Record Office (WO 374/71550). He served in the British Army for 4 years, 3 months. He was son of Timothy Walsh in 1878 at Coolaclarig, Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland. His parents were Thomas Walsh & Hanora Buckley. He was in the Franciscan Order of priests and Jerome was his religious name. (source: Martin Kennelly  nephew)

LEGION:  A Mass will be held for American Veterans who served in the American Forces, Army, Navy and Air Corp who are buried in Rath Cemetery.  This will take place on Saturday, November 20th at 1.30pm in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Rathass.  Some graves have been identified but any help from people who might have relations and friends buried at Rath that have not been identified would be appreciated.  Contact Joe on 7124655, Mossie on 7181277 or Rico on 7137051.

WAR 11: Benjamin Stephen Bernard Johnston, born in Ardfert in 1912. Stephen married Joyce Baron in 1937.  During the War he flew “Pathfinders” in the RAF and was awarded the RFC and the AFC. More from http://maturin.org.uk/4.html

BANKS: Benjamin Maturin Johnston born at Ramelton, Donegal in 1849. He worked in the Bank of Ireland, in Tralee and several other Banks around the country established the Bank of Ireland in Listowel. He married Christina Stapleton in Newcastle West in 1876, she was born 1849 in Jersey. Benjamin died 1928. His sister Emma lived with him in Listowel and died there.

STARS: European  astronomers using ESO’s Very Large Telescope  have examined the very faint glow of a galaxy they have found and they are seeing it when the Universe was only about 600 million years old .

DEATH took place in Listowel Hospital on Sunday 17th October 2010 of Jack Dore of Carrueragh, Kilmorna. His brother Ned and Sister Mary survive him. Following Requiem Mass celebrated by Canon Declan O Connor in Listowel Church on Tuesday 19th October 2010 Jack Dore was laid to rest with generations of his ancestors at Knockanure Old Churchyard. Jack was aged 72 years and was son of Davie Dore of Carrueragh and Ellen Sweeney of the Glen.

DEATH took place on October 20th 2010 of  Norrie Donegan, nee Gilbert of Moybella, Lisselton she was , pre-deceased by her husband Stephen and son Billy, Norrie is survived by  daughters Kay and Mary, sons Mike, Stevie,  Gerard who lives at Kilbaha, Moyvane,  brother Moss Joe Gilbert, sister Mary and sister in law Sr. Rita Donegan in Castleisland. Requiem Mass in St. Teresa’s Church, Ballydonoghue on Saturday October 23rd for Norrie Donegan was celebrated by Fr Lawlor P.P. Lisselton assisted by Fr Nolan, Fr McMahon, Fr Kennelly, Fr Twomey and Fr Healy. Ballydonoghue Church Choir and the Donegan Family sang the Hymns. Several solo songs and instrumental music added to the ceremony. Norrie Donegan was laid to rest at Killahenny Cemetery, Ballybunion beside her husband Stephen who died in February 1981. Norrie born 1923 was daughter of Mick Gilbert and Mollie McMahon. She was involved in Comhaltas, ICA and the Ballydonoghue Parish Magazine.

DEATH has taken place of Nora STACK, (née Kenrick) of Clounlehard, Ballyhahill. Nora was laid to rest at Ahavoher Graveyard following Requiem mass at Ballyhahill Church on Thursday October 21st 2010. Nora is survived by her husband Pat who was a native of Gortdromosillihy, Moyvane. Sons P.J. and Tom, Daughters, Kay, Hazel, Linda, Rachel and Nora.

DEATH Took place on October 21st 2010 of Michael Flaherty of Ahacoora, Lixnaw, he was laid to rest at Kilfeighney Cemetery after Requiem Mass in Lixnaw Church. Michael was a great supporter of Vintage and Sports Days, his ancestor Doherty came from Moyvane.

SAINT: Eucharistic Celebration to mark the Canonisation of Mary Mackillop will be held at Noon in St John’s Cathedral Limerick on Sunday Nov. 7th.

ADORATION: Moyvane Wed. 10.00am to 7.00pm Sun. 4.00pm to 5.00pm and Knockanure Tues. 10.00am to 6.00pm ; Adoration in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel Abbeyfeale each evening Monday to Friday from 6pm to  8pm, Rosary each evening at 7.30pm.

COMMUNION: If you are allergic to wheat you can receive from the chalice which is easily accessible on Sundays.

TIME: Evening Masses in the Parish will be at 7.30pm across the winter months .

COLLECTION: The shannonside no name club annual church gate collection will take place on weekend of 30/31st Oct. in Moyvane and Knockanure. Your support would be greatly appreciated. The no name club provides an alternative from drink and drugs culture for the young teens.

 BEREAVED: ‘Coping with Loss & Grief’.  A talk will be held in the Parish Centre Tralee on Wednesday, November 24th at 8pm.  All welcome.
