CHURCH: The whole project was a bold intervention by Michael Scott
who, when he was asked to design the church, was required to seek
approval from the people of the parish. This he succeeded in doing at
a meeting which was held in the local school attended by the head of
each family. Nobody before or since had dared to construct a church of
such rigid discipline which, in spite of its small scale, raises
itself above the surrounding countryside.

LORD KITCHENER, SPEECH AT SIMLA. Simla, Wednesday.
Lord Kitchener, speaking as the guest of the Staff College at a
dinner last night, said the founding of the Staff College am the
introduction of other changes were due solely to an endeavour to
promote the welfare of the Indian Army. On his arrival in India he
found that the army consisted of regiments, individually excellent,
but that there was no organisation in brigades or divisions: no
brigade of cavalry under a cavalry officer and no means of training
the staff. The Indian Staff College was now in full working order, and
the formation of a General Staff was under consideration. The army was
being organised and trained in peace with reference to the conditions
of war.—Editor

CAPUCHIN ORDER. ARCHBISHOP OF SIMLA IN CORK.
His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Kennealy, the newly-appointed Archbishop of
Simla, arrived in Cork last night, and was met by Very Rev Father
Thomas. Provincial of the order. The Archbishop who is a guest of the
Capuchin Community in Father Mathew quay, is one of the many members
of that glorious Order whom the Church has singled out for
well-merited distinction. He has sprung, too, from the missionary
race, his parents having been Irish. He was definitor General of the
Capuchin Order during his ministry in England,, he endeared himself to
all with whom he came into contact by his beautiful zeal in the cause
of religion and charity.

YUKON: Pat Galvin was born in Kerry, Ireland, and immigrated to the
United States as a young boy. Before coming to the Yukon, he was a
hardware merchant in Belle Plains, Minnesota, and then chief of
police, manager of a newspaper and superintendent of some mines at
Helena, Montana.
He moved farther west to Puget Sound, when the region was booming,
then headed north to Juneau to manage a hardware business while the
owner went on an extended trip Outside. The siren call of the Yukon
lured him yet farther north to Forty Mile, where he took a large stock
of hardware and tinsmith’s tools. Making stoves for miners along the
Yukon became a lucrative enterprise, and he soon had a branch store in
Circle, Alaska.

The study, the largest of its kind, emphasizes how crucial early
vitamin D is for healthy brain development. By analyzing data from
over 71,000 people, researchers found that babies born with low
vitamin D levels had significantly higher chances of developing
neurodevelopmental disorders during childhood and adolescence. These
findings highlight the importance of ensuring adequate vitamin D
levels, particularly during pregnancy.

COVID: Over the past 5 years, the United States has moved toward an
annual Covid-19 booster program. Each fall, Covid-19 booster shots are
developed, alongside seasonal influenza vaccines, and are recommended
for every American. As compared with vaccination policies in all
European nations, the U.S. policy has been the most aggressive (see
Figure 1).1 While all other high-income nations confine vaccine
recommendations to older adults (typically those older than 65 years
of age), or those at high risk for severe Covid-19, the United States
has adopted a one-size-fits-all regulatory framework and has granted
broad marketing authorization to all Americans over the age of 6
months.1 The U.S. policy has sometimes been justified by arguing that
the American people are not sophisticated enough to understand age-
and risk-based recommendations.2 We reject this view.
