DEATH of John Lynch, The Village, Moyvane, on October 14th, 2023. John is survived by his parents Noreen and Joe, brother Jody, sisters Siobhan and Marie, uncles Liam and Thomas, aunts Joan and Peg, brothers-in-law Donnacha and Ger, nephews, and nieces. Requiem Mass for John was celebrated at The Church of The Assumption, Moyvane, on Thursday morning, followed by burial afterwards in Ahavoher Cemetery, Moyvane.
DEATH of The death has occurred of Sister Mary Hanrahan of Kilbaha, Moyvane, and Olney, England on 1st October 2023. A member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, she died at Burlington House, Woburn Sands. Sister Mary is survived by, sisters Sr. Veronica (Peggy), Kathleen (Mulvihill, Shronowen, Listowel), brother Jackie (Kilbaha), sister-in-law Teresa. She will be sadly missed by her family, and extensive circle of friends in Ireland and England. The funeral mass for Sister Mary was held in Our Lady, Help of Christians and St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Olney on Friday 20th October, burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

POPE John Paul 11, Monday, Oct. 16 marked 45 years to the day that Cardinal Pericles Felici announced that “Karol, Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church, Wojtyla” had been elected pope. He was the first non-Italian since Dutchman Adrian VI in 1523. Feast of St. John Paul II is celebrated on Sunday 22nd October. He was pope for twenty-six years and visited 104 countries. In 1979 he visited Ireland. Feast of Blessed Taidhg Mac Carthaigh (1455-1492) is celebrated on Wed. 25th October. Appointed Bishop of Cloyne and Cork, he was opposed by the Earl of Desmond. He set out for Rome where his appointment was confirmed by the pope, but he died on the return journey to Ireland.

On Saturday, October 28, we are delighted to welcome the Carlow-based Palatine GAA team who will take on our own Moyvane GAA team. Palatine GAA have previously hosted Moyvane GAA and we are delighted to now welcome them to North Kerry for, what promises to be, a highly entertaining and competitive GAA game. Higgins has called for a shift away “from an over-reliance on imported fertiliser, pesticide and seeds” at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations in Rome (Monday, October 16).
