SOCIAL: Annual Dinner & Dance for Listowel and District active retirement group at the Listowel Arms Hotel on Tuesday 14th December 2010, Meal at 2.30pm. More from Chairperson Maryanne on 068 21894;  Fealebridge & Headley’s Bridge Co Op are holding their 41st Annual Social on Friday, December 3 at the Devon Inn, Templeglantine, Co. Limerick. They are celebrating their centenary.

NEWTOWNSANDES Creamery Social is still being talked about there was entertainment for both young and old, traditional singer Annmarie O Riordan made a great impression, Eoin Hand now resident at Glennalappa put on a polished performance, plenty of laughter came from the audience during the antics of comedian Declan Mangan, a young Beaufort born singer Jack Healy created a real buzz with his excepts from musicals. The O’Sullivan Brothers Band provided a variety of dance music for the rest of the night. KERRYMAN has recorded some passed Newtownsandes Creamery Socials; one of the earliest is recorded in the KM of Dec. 14th 1963. Prizes were presented at the social to winners of   quality milk competition. The Chairman of the Co-op John P Ahern said that they as a committee were not sitting back, or were not a mutual admiration society, other speakers were Maurice Stack, Sean O Ruairc, Dept. Agric. Inspector and Mr N. W. O Brien I.A.O.S. organiser who presented the prizes. Co-op Dinner Dance was held at Ballybunion on 19th Nov. 1971, they had the Western Star Band and the subscription was £1-25. Socials were held at Tarbert, Banna and Devon Inn Social is mentioned in Nov. 2002 and ’04 Kerryman.

 Note ; AGM of the Creamery was held in March 1958 in the recently erected offices at the creamery. William Stack was Chairman and C. B. Shine was secretary, the committee was increased to 21 members. Tom Mulvihill of Moyvane , became a qualified Creamery Manager in 1964. Cargo of Basic Slag for the Creamery arrived at Tarbert on 21st Nov. 1966. Not many attended the AGM of the Co-op in 1975. Auction of machinery was held at the creamery on Feb. 1st 1979. Newtownsandes milk intake in 1984/85 year was 4 million gallons, fealesbridge in same period intake was 3 million gallons.

COST:  At San Antonio Church it cost $7,000 just to get rid of the bats and guano.

THIEF who attempted to steal a donation box in a German Church recently was hit in the head by a failing statue, he went to a nearby house for help and his lady friend stole purse while he was getting attention.

DEATH took place on Sunday 21st November 2010 at Aras Mhuire Listowel of Bridie Hannon nee Lyons late of Gurtcreen, Listowel; she was sister of the late Julie Lyons who was married to Willie Walsh of Clounprohus, Moyvane. Bridie Hannon was laid to rest at St Michaels Churchyard Listowel following Requiem Mass at Listowel Church on Tuesday 23rd of November 2010.

DEATH took place of Mike Joe Flaherty on November 23rd 2010, he was born at Murhur, Moyvane and lived at Moyvane Village. Mike Joe is survived by his wife Eily Mai O Sullivan, daughters Kay and Mary, sons Tim, Micheal, Martin, John,
Seamus and Patrick, brother Tom, sisters Sr. M. Andrews, Sr. Deborah, Theresa O’Sullivan, Sr. Teresa, he was predeceased by his son  Tom, siblings, Fr. John ,Sr. Berchmans and Chrisse. Requiem Mass for Mike Joe O Flaherty was celebrated at the Church of the Assumption, Moyvane on Thursday 25th November 2010, by Fr Lucid assisted by Fr McMahon Fr Hegarty and Fr Tarrant. Mike Joe O Flaherty was laid to rest at  Ahavoher Cemetery. Mike Jo was son of Tim Flaherty who came from Knockanure and Mary Ann Windle a native of Moyvane.

DEATH has taken place of Michael Windle of Upper Aughrim, Moyvane. Requiem Mass for Michael Windle was celebrated by Fr Lucid and Hymns were sung by Elaine Foley at Moyvane Church on Saturday 27th Nov. 2010. Michael was laid to rest at Ahavoher Cemetery beside his sisters Nora who died 11th April 2010 and Ellen who died in 1996.

MASS in Knockanure on Thursday at7.30pm, Communion rounds for the First Friday will be made in Knockanure in the morning and Moyvane in the afternoon. Confessions before evening mass on Saturday.

ADORATION: Moyvane Sunday from 4pm to 5pm, Wed. from 10am to 7pm and Knockanure Tuesday from 10am to 6pm.

Adoration in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel Abbeyfeale each evening Monday to Friday from 6 to 8pm, Rosary each evening at 7.30pm. Adoration takes place in the adoration chapel Listowel each Tuesday & Wednesday after 10.30am Mass to 7pm. Eucharistic Adoration will take place each Sunday of Advent in Listowel Adoration Chapel from 3 – 6pm.

AGM of the Liturgy Group and P.P.C. was held recently, Chairman Liam Nolan and Secretary Margaret Carmody.

FIRST Advent candle was lit in the church on Sunday last, the Jesse Tree is decorated with artwork from local children and the reflection of the sun on the wall at the back of the altar tells us the shortest day is near.

HOPE; St John’s Church Tralee; Three nights of Reflection & Prayer and a night of Musical celebration with Fr Liam Lawton.    Peter McVerry SJ, Mary Davis, and Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh will offer reflections on Monday, November 13th, Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th.    Fr Liam Lawton will conclude this Advent Faith programme with a Musical celebration on Sunday, December 19th
