FIRST Communion Class had a lovely ceremony at Knockanure Church on Sunday morning last, Fr Lucid thanked all involved in the preparation for the day.

SECURITY: Senior Citizens in conjunction with Community Alert will be holding a public meeting regarding Home Security and Safety in the Home in the Marian Hall Monday November 5th at 7.30pm. Speakers will include Garda Liaison Officer Listowel (Home Security); Health Professional Sinéad Kearney (First Aid & Safety in the Home); Dave Fitzgibbon (Fire Alarms); Pat Leahy and Kay O’Hanlon (Personal Alarms). VILLAGE Festival was held in Moyvane last weekend, the weather on Sunday was cold and showery and attendances were back, but for the people who attended there was plenty to keep them occupied. The Community Centre was the focal point with vintage display, craft and baking exhibition and Dog Show.

We should appreciate that a French woman attended and had an exhibition of her artwork. Ghislane Giustiniani of Burgundy says she loves Ireland that is the reason she is here, see her display at St John’s in Listowel. SINGING Festival in Abbeyfeale runs from 2nd to 4th of Nov.

WEDDINGS: Louise Coughlan and Peter Lyons were married in the Cathedral in Killarney 19th Oct. 2012, the bride is a native of Cork and the groom is son of Pete and Mary Lyons of Cahirdown; Catriona O Sullivan of Tullamore and Brien Sheehan of Glin were married at Ballydonoghue Church on 20th Oct. 2012. Bride is daughter of Batt O Sullivan Tullamore and Nora O Sullivan, nee Mulvihill, a native of Moyvane. The Grooms parents are Patrick and Noreen Sheehan of Glin.

DEATH took place on 20th October 2012 of Michael ‘Mick’ Reidy  of Glenagower, Athea at the age of 91 years. Mick is Survived by his sons Dick and Paudie, daughters Ann, Joan and Geraldine, brother Pat, sisters Nora and Josie. Requiem Mass for Mick was celebrated on Wednesday 24th October at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Athea, among the celebrants were, Fr Bowen, Canon Cussen, Canon Kelly and Fr Bluitt . Following Mass, Mick Reidy was laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery, Athea beside his wife Peg Sheehy who died on November 11th 2004.

NOVEMBER Envelopes for the Dead: is the purple envelope in your Envelope Box whereby we can list the names of our Dead, that we wish to remember in our November Masses. Please return your November envelopes as soon as possible in order to be included in the November Masses beginning on All Souls Day, Friday November 2nd. There will be a special Mass each week, both in Moyvane and Knockanure at 7.30pm during the month of November, where we will pray for all our Dead, cumulating in the special Mass for the Dead of the past 12 months on Friday 30th November at 7.30pm.

Indulgences for all the Holy Souls: 1. From noon on 1st November until midnight on 2nd November, all who have confessed, received Holy Communion, and prayed for the Pope’s intentions (one Our Father and Hail Mary or any other prayer of one’s choice) can gain one plenary indulgence by visiting a Church or oratory, and there reciting one Our Father and the Apostles’ Creed. This indulgence is applicable only to the souls of the departed. Confessions may be made at any time within the week preceding or the week following 1st November. Holy Communion may be received on any day from the 1st November to the 8th November.

2. The Faithful who visit a cemetery and pray for the dead may gain a plenary indulgence applicable only to the Holy Souls on the usual conditions once per day from the 1st to 8th November. The conditions mentioned above apply also for this.

LOCAL: The Walton is an Irish science periodical, and was founded by students of UCC, including John O’Donoghue. John is the winner of the 2011 UCC Doctoral Showcase and the Inorganic Chemistry Award at the 2011 Irish Chemistry Colloquium. He graduated from St. Michael’s College, Listowel in 2004.

STACK Michael Joseph (1888-1960)  of Pennsylvania. Born in Listowel, County Kerry. September 29, 1888. Served in the U.S. Army during World War I; U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania 6th District, 1935-39; defeated (Royal Oak), 1938. Died in Philadelphia County, Pa., December 14, 1960 (age 72 years. Buried at St. Denis Cemetery, Havertown, Pa.

GYPSIES: Germany has just dedicated a memorial to the half a million Gypsies killed by the Nazis. The memorial in Berlin to the ethnic Sinti and Roma was opened Wednesday 24th Oct. 2012 by Chancellor Angela Merkel.
