Knockanure Notes — 29th May, 2016

QUEEN OF THE MAY – THANKS:  Our sincere thanks to all who were involved in the Queen of the May procession in Knockanure, To Fr. Tom and to Canon Declan for leading the celebration. Margaret Carmody has put great effort and energy into this procession for many years and we are grateful to her for her generous efforts in organising it. Choir can be heard on knockanurelocal.

NEW STOCK:  has arrived in the Parish Office in particular battery operated candles for the graves.   A new extra selection of cards for exams and various occasions are now available.

CHERNOBYL CHILDREN:  Annual collection of clothes will commence this week.  These children from Belarus stay with voluntary host families in North Kerry.  Please contact Ann Flavin on 086/3090948.

CORPUS CHRISTI Procession in Listowel was well attended, the evening was ideal with lovely sunshine and the less mobile could wait in the hospital grounds. The choir were in great form, singing at the porch of Ard Curam. Several toured the building when proceedings had ended. Others visited friends in hospital and Arus Mhuire.

FLEADH: Glin will host the Limerick County Fleadh Cheoil from Friday 3rd to Monday the 6th June.

LOURDES: The annual Limerick Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes takes place from Tuesday 21st to Sunday 26th June.

1916 GARDEN OF REMEMBERANCE:   The First Holy Communion children of Murhur N.S. gathered after school on Friday last 27th and planted trees next to the Proclamation Plaque that has been erected by the Development Association.  Our sincere thanks to the Development Association for getting this garden up and running and special thanks to the First Holy Communion children and their parents for gathering to plant these trees in memory of the men, women and children of ‘16.

Children Honoured Our Blessed Lady; On Saturday, May 29,1954 the children of Moyvane and Kilbaha schools marched to Knockanure Church, a distance of two and a quarter miles, to do homage to the Blessed Virgin. It was a pleasant sight as the long procession of children, under the care of their teachers, filed past, reciting the Rosary and singing hymns. On Sunday the children of the Knockanure schools went on Pilgrimage to St. Mary’s Church, Moyvane. Two beautiful banners of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour were carried by the children.
