NEVILLE Stack; 4 recordings by Capt. Neville Stack of the RAF, acc. by
Dan Carroll on the banjo (1934)

Jul 20, 2022; This is an interesting set of sides by Captain Neville
Stack, recorded in 1934 on the “Permarec” system. The 78s have an
aluminium core, with a hard shellac-like material that was baked in an
oven to set it once the discs had been recorded. I’m grateful to Terry
Brown who found a press clipping about these sides – it seems that
Stack was encouraged to record his singing to give to friends. These
discs represent 2/3rds of his entire output. Stack died in 1949, his
son (also called Neville Stack) went on to become Air Chief Marshall.
Please note one of these songs features language that is definitely of
its time. This record is presented as a product of its era.

A COLLECTION of objects from County Limerick feature in Changing
Ireland Galleries, an exhibition at the National Museum of Ireland in
Dublin.

This includes a handkerchief decorated and signed in 1977 by
republican paramilitary prisoners Rita O’Hare, Rose Dugdale, Marian
Coyle, Marie Murray, and Angela Duffin in Limerick Prison, symbolising
resistance and solidarity; and an Irish Volunteer uniform tunic button
belonging to Edward Daly. Edward was executed on May 4, 1916,
connecting the county to Ireland’s revolutionary history.

SUDAN: OSV News) — As a paramilitary group announced the capture of
el-Fasher, the besieged capital of Sudan’s North Darfur state,
Catholic Church leaders amplified calls for the protection of
“forgotten” civilians — including thousands of children — trapped in
the western Sudanese city.

On Oct. 26, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and its allies
announced the capture of the main army base, and technically the city,
after an 18-month deadly siege. The paramilitary forces had
intensified bombings, heavy artillery and drone attacks, forcing the
army to retreat from the base.

260,000 civilians are trapped

NUA – Dé Céadaoin 26 Samhain @ 21:30 ar TG4 & TG4.ie

In 1968, Mick Meaney was buried six foot under the London soil in a
simple wooden coffin. Hundreds came to see his burial, and toast Mick
on his way. The thing was, Mick was not dead. He was competing in the
world record competition for ‘Longest Time Spent Buried Alive’.
Incredibly, Mick was not the first. Our story begins in 1920s
California and ends with a Dutch nun buried under a fairground in
Skegness. This story is brought to life through the eyes of Mick’s
loving daughter, who grapples with her father’s bizarre legacy.
