MEAL: Knockanure Community Centre Christmas Meal for the Active Retired. The Annual Christmas meal for the active retired will be held at Knockanure Community Centre on Monday 10th December. BEST Wishes to Cathy Scannell nee Flaherty of Skehanerin who celebrated her 90th birthday recently with family and friends. Cathy was born at Moyvane and was of a family of 14, all are now deceased except, Cathy, Nora and Sr. Nuala. Jack  Scannell husband of Cathy died about 25 years ago.

BIRTHDAY: Congratulations Ned Kiely of Lisgordon, Ardagh and formerly of Templeathea who recently celebrated his 90th Birthday

DEATH: Sr. Gerard Sheehy, Convent, Castletownbere and late of Duagh, Listowel, died on November 20th 2012 in Fatima Home, Tralee. Sadly missed by her loving community, brother Jeremiah, sisters Peg, Bridie, Cathy and Sr. Brendan,
Requiem Mass for Sr. Gerard was celebrated at St Peter’s Church, Castletownbere on Friday November 23rd 2012, followed by burial in the Old Convent Cemetery.

DEATH has taken place of  Mattie Walsh, formerly of Islandeanny, Duagh and Inch and Garryárd, Listowel. Requiem Mass for Mattie Walsh was celebrated at St Theresa’s Church, Ballydonoghue on Friday 30th November 2012. Mattie worked for many years at Keane’s of Garryard and in recent times lived at Lystoll Nursing Home, he was laid to rest in Gael Cemetery, Lisselton

The death has taken place of Maureen Scollard (nee Sheahan) wife of the late Dan, Knockfinisk, Athea, on Tuesday 20th November 2012. She died in Cahermoyle Nursing Home, Ardagh  she was ninety years old and was a native of Knocknagorna, Athea, Her Requiem Mass was celebrated at Saint Bartholomew’s Church on followed by burial in Templeathea Cemetery on Thursday 22nd November 2012.

DEATH: Took place on November 24th 2012 of Joan  Mullane of Lisreidy, Loughill  and formerly of Knocknaboula, Foynes,  in her 101st year, Joan; will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, relatives, friends and neighbours. R.I.P. Requiem Mass in Loughill Church for Joan Mullane on Tuesday 27th November ’12, Burial afterwards in Loughill Cemetery.

DEATH: Requiem Mass for Bridie Quille nee Long was celebrated at Holy Family Church, Southill, Limerick on Wednesday 28th November 2012, Burial afterwards in Mount St Oliver cemetery Limerick. Bridie was a native of Lyreacrompane, he father came from Glin, Bridie and her family contributed articles to several local magazines over the years.

‘UNITE FOR LIFE’:  Tuesday, December 4th, there will be a ‘Unite for Life’ vigil outside the Dáil at 4.30pm.  The vigil will have a positive, clear message about safeguarding the lives of mothers and babies in pregnancy.  For details, contact 087 2668702.

ADHD SUPPORT GROUP: The ADHD/ ADD parent support group will host a workshop with psychologist and filial play facilitator Coilin O’Braonain from 11am -12.30pm on Monday, December 3 in room 10 of the Abbeyfeale Community Education Centre (old tech). The session will contain a message of self-care for parents and offer participants the opportunity to talk to other parents and learn from other parents with children with ADHD. Open to the public.

SVP: St. Vincent de Paul is the largest voluntary, charitable organisation in Ireland, with membership of 10,500 volunteers throughout the country, they are supported by professional staff.

AUSTRALIA: Fr Tim Harnett born at Duagh to Michael Harnett and Mary Sheehy ordained at All Hollows in 1879 and went that year to Australia. When he died in 1905 he was PP at Candello NSW. He visited home in 1893. Fr Tim was buried with his brother Dan also a priest in Australia who died in 1882, both are buried at Cooma, NSW.

Kerryman of 26th May 1906. Death of Tom Mulvihill PP Gisbourne, NZ. He was aged 38 years and son of Matt Mulvihill of Doonard, Tarbert, Co Kerry, he had a brother Con at Kilpadogue, Tarbert and was first Cousin to Fr Dan Finucane of Kerry Diocese who was at the time in America collecting for the O Connell Memorial Church. Fr Mulvihill died March 1906, born 1868 and ordained by Archbishop Walsh in 1892.

SAINT: President Aquino, Vice President Jejomar Binay and Interior Secretary Mar Roxas on Friday 30th Nov 2012 led other government officials and more than a million Pilipino devotees in the National Thanksgiving Mass for the canonization of St. Pedro Calungsod. Four cardinals, 54 bishops and archbishops and some 700 priests from at least seven countries concelebrated the Mass.
