of pictures taken at St Johns during 2009 will be on view during =
January, Watch out for the Thomas Lyndon Memorial Concert, it was =
postponed due to the weather and will be held later, The Master is back =

DEAFHEAR.IE: Will be holding an outreach service in Listowel at the =
Citizen Information Centre, 35 The Square on Friday 8th January 2010 =
from 10am. to 12.30pm. There will be information about coping with loss =
of hearing, difficulties using hearing aids & the latest equipment to =
assist you in your daily life.

SOCIAL: North Kerry Pioneer Social will be held at the Lanterns Hotel on =
Friday Jan. 22nd, begins with Mass at 7.30pm; Abbeyfeale GAA social will =
be held at the Fr. Casey Clubhouse on Jan. 30th , meal at 9pm; Kerry =
Comhaltas Social at Ballygarry House Hotel on March 12th .

MARRIAGE took place in Listowel Church on Thursday 31st of December’09 =
of Nuala Thornton and John Keane, Fr Donal OConnor was the celebrant. =
Groomsmen were Paudie O Connell and Andrew Keane. Bridesmaids Grace =
Clarke and Donna Kavanagh. Flower Girls Lucy Keane and Blathnaid Keane.

AWARE: The Tralee Aware group offer support for those who are =
sufferers of depression, and for their families and friends every =
Tuesday at 8pm in the Sacristy rooms at the rear of St. Johns Church, =
contact 066 7194713. There is now a Kerry relatives support group at =
the Dromhall Hotel, Killarney on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 8pm =
for relatives & friends of people experiencing depressive illnesses or =
mood disorder.

OCD Support Group meets on the 1st Thursday of each month in a room at =
the Meadowlands Hotel from 8pm to 9.30pm. Next meeting is on January =
7th.

PALLIATIVE Care Unit at KGH recently received a cheque of E1,180 from =
Moyvane Development Association Vintage Day proceeds.

ALZHEIMERS Support Group meets every second Tuesday of the month at =
Listowel Family Resource Centre (Ballygologue) at 7.30pm. The next =
meeting will take place on Tuesday 12th January. For more information =

BENEFIT Event was held recently at Rory Dolan’s, McClean Ave, Yonkers =
for Mr. John Plunkett. He is currently in the ICU, has already had a =
stem cell transplant. He no longer has the use of his limbs, has been =
let go from his job, has run out of health insurance and the list goes =
on. John was a great supporter of Acosta School and the =
Furlong/Mulvihill schools. Donations drop them at Rose’s 95 East George =

THANKS: The Samaritan collectors and helpers wish to thank all who =
subscribed to the Samaritan Collection on Christmas Eve and on Christmas =
day. The Samaritans are available day and night every day of the year.

CONGRATULATIONS to Rosalish Goulding of Knockanure who is now in charge =
of the beef breeding at the National Cattle Breeding Centre, she holds a =
degree in Veterinary Medicine and a Masters in Business Administration.

WEIGHT Lifting; Moses Lake’s Ryan Kennelly, failed at 1,000 pounds, =
tried again at 1,035 but was off balance, he later tried 1,080 pounds, =
he failed to reach his goal at the StarFit Fitness Centre in Kennewick.

MOON: Eclipse of the Moon on Thursday Dec. 31st took place between 7pm =

ST BRENDANS in Killarney will celebrate their 150th anniversary this =

HARD Times; In 1821 there was one fever hospital in Kerry; A German =
called Frederick Von Ranmer was in Kerry in 1835, he found it impossible =
to enjoy the scenery, because of the wretched poverty of the people of =
Killarney and elsewhere in the County, while on his way to Dublin he saw =
tattered clothes on thousands, not a whole coat on anyone except in the =
towns. PRICES of wheat in 1821 was 1-18- and 8.5 pence per barrel of =
twenty stone. Twenty stone of potatoes cost 9 shillings and 6 pence. =
Oats cost 15s and 2 pence farthing per fourteen stone.

TITHES; Peter Thompson and John Stack certified the Tithes for Tralee in =
1821, payable to Rev. E. M. Denny.

POTATOES: December 1894 meeting of the Board of Guardians was told of =
the failure of the potato crop in the region, the crop appeared better =

SEARCHING for relations of Edmund Scanlon who went to the US through the =
port of Boston in 1875. He was born in 1853 or 54. He enlisted in the =

work with the underprivileged.

PASTORAL Plan 2009-2013 was launched by Bishop Murphy in Killarney last =
September, the diocese is divided into 12 Pastoral Areas, each with a =
council made up of priests and representatives from each parish, they =
work in partnership to respond to the needs of their communities.

FIRST Presentation School in Tralee was opened in 1809 by Mother Joseph =
