AFTERNOON TEA DANCE:  Afternoon tea dancing resumes at Fr. Casey’s, Abbeyfeale on Sunday, October 13 from 3-6pm with music by the Seamus Sheehy Band. Teas served. All welcome.  This is a fundraiser for the Abbeyfeale Arts Assembly .

DEATH took place on 30th September 2013 of Patsy Byrne of Moynsha House and Coolanelig, Duagh  and London. Patsy survived by his wife of 41 years Bridget, sons Michael and Seán, daughter Siobhán, son-in-law David, daughters-in-law Louise and Michelle, grandchildren Patrick, George, Connell, Seamus, Mia, Jake and Ella, mother-in-law Nar, brother Johnny, sisters Helen, Lizzie and Mary.  Requiem Mass for Patsy Byrne was celebrated   on Thursday October 3rd at St Bridget’s Church Duagh by Fr Moore assisted by Fr Jerry Devlin and six other priests. Funeral afterwards to Springmount Cemetery Duagh. Among the attendance were; Niall Quinn, JP McManus, Michael Hourigan,  Michael Lowry, Micheal O Muircheartaigh, Paddy Reilly.

The Chief Executive of The Byrne Group. He was a great supporter of the Irish community in Britain and charity events. Patsy was involved in the construction of the Olympic Stadium, the Emirates Stadium, Stamford Bridge and the new Centre and Number One Court at Wimbledon, with his brother Johnny. Byrne’s pink and blue colours were victorious recently with White Star Line in the Kerry National at Listowel Races.

His greyhound winners include, Irish Derby winner Cool Performance. Ballinderry Flash won the English Derby in 1991 he was jointly owned with Prince Edward . His Irish Cup winners, Castle Pines, Sandy Sea and Castlemartyr.

ROME: Limerick was recently represented at a  conference  attended by 1600 catechists from 50 countries.
The conference had a talk from Pope Francis, at the end of the conference there was a celebration of Eucharist in St Peters Square, where Pope Francis led 100,000 fellow Catholics in reflection and prayer.

TRALEE MODEL RAILWAY;  The Tralee-Blennerville Model Railway Line, which is on permanent loan to the Kerry Model Railway Society from Chester Model Railway, and a carbon copy of the actual Tralee-Blennerville Steam Locomotive, featured recently on  Nationwide programme on RTE television.

J H Scullin  1876-1953, Australian Prime Minister in London Nov. 1930, His mother Ann Logan from Derry. his wife Sarah Maria born in Kerry her Father was McNamara of Bodyk and mother Kerry woman, the future Mrs Scullin left Kerry aged 3 years. Prime Minister family of North of Ireland.

James Henty Scullin died on 28 January 1953. Survived by his wife, Sarah Maria McNamara. He was given a state funeral and was buried in Melbourne General cemetery: Archbishop Daniel Mannix  presided at a requiem Mass in St Patrick’s Cathedral. They had no family, his wife was a dressmaker, they married at Ballarat on 11 Nov. 1907. While prime minister he declined, as an economy measure, to live in the Lodge, and retained a modest home in Richmond. He was over 60 before he bought a house, at Hawthorn. He was a non-smoking and teetotaller.

He persuading Prime minister  Lyons to abandon a proposal in September 1932 to reduce the old-age pension from 17s. 6d. to 15s. a week.

Premiers’ conference of May-June 1931,  agreed to restructure Australia’s public finances Australian resident bondholders accepted a 22.5 per cent cut in their interest, and all adjustable government expenditure, including salaries and pensions, was cut by 20 per cent to help balance budgets.
