COMMUNITY Centre: The next Active Retirement Day in Knockanure will take place on Monday the 13th July, 2009. If attending please ring the office on 068 49799 Monday to Friday 9.30am to 1.30pm. Anybody wishing to book the Centre for any occasion, (Christenings, Birthdays, Funerals etc) please contact the office.

OUTING: Senior Citizens outing to Ballybunion on Sunday July 19th . Day includes Dinner, Dancing and Afternoon Tea at the Golf Hotel. Bus departs at 12 noon from the Church Car Park. SEISIUN summer show at the Arms Hotel on Wednesday nights at 9pm and the Templeglantine Seisiun is on Thursday nights they continue weekly till August.

BUS to Ballybunion from Listowel Starts on Thursday 25th July and then continue every Thursday. Pick up at Bus Stop near Listowel Arm’s Hotel at 11am. to Ballybunion returning at 4pm.

BEST Wishes to Alanna Donegan who celebrated her 21st birthday at the Arms Hotel on Saturday night last with family and friends. Alanna is daughter of Julienne and Gerard Donegan of Kilbaha. Paudie Hanrahan, Maurice and John Stack also celebrate their birthdays this month.

CFR: Athea Community First Responders will be hosting its first AGM on the 17th July at the Gables function room followed by social event from 9pm onwards. All CFR’s past and present are invited to attend.

KNOCK: A group from the Parish and the locality travelled to Knock on Monday June 29th Feast of St Peter and Paul, it was a lovely warm summers day, hearing three different preachers talk about Peter and Paul was illuminating, each in their own way, one Priest sang and chanted a complete mass, leaving you wishing for more. Retired people can avail of Full Board, at St Joseph’s Guest House for E65. Knock Summer Festival runs from 23rd to 26th of July. LOCAL Man Mike O Connor is pictured in the in the latest edition of Irelands Own magazine bringing home the turf with his pet boxer Sheeba. He wants to continue to cut turf in Moanaveanlagh Bog, as his ancestors have done for generations. MAIREAD O Connor of Kilmorna, wife of Mike above will be demonstrating carding and spinning and weaving wool at the Killarney summerfest in the Craft village, outside the Outlet Centre on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th July from 12 noon till 6 pm.

ARTWORK composed by Marie Brennan art teacher at Knockanure School is now on view on the inside of the local school boundary wall.

LONG School holidays and no employment for young people is building up trouble for the future, the wheels of government are at a standstill and likely to sink deeper into the sand, before they attempt to move. RATHFREDAGH Gymkhana attracted thousands on Sunday last, in glorious sunshine with the odd heavy shower. Several from the Parish were in attendance to view the huge vintage and army display, thousands of goods were on offer for all ages and music was provided by several artists including Richie Kavanagh. People also had a chance to view the Home and its facilities also.

THANK You Very much Nora Relihan for your Trojan work with St John’s Arts and Heritage Centre over the past 22 years, Nora recently retired from the governing board of St John’s.

DEATH took place on June 28th `09 Jeremiah O Connor of Santry, Dublin and Inchamore, Listowel. Survived by his wife Annette and children Ken, Ciaran and Helen and siblings Liam, Margaret, Sr. Monie and Sr. Kathleen, Following Requiem Mass on Wednesday July 1st at the Church of Our Lady of Victories, Ballymun Road, Dublin Jerry O Connor was laid to rest at Dardistown Cemetery, the Old Swords Road. He was a retired Garda Sergeant.

INFORMATION Wanted on; Patrick Culhane, of Adrian, Mich., died Sept. 4th, 1908. He was born 1848 and went to America in 1870. Patrick was survived by three children, Thomas and Mary Culhane of Adrian, Mich., and Mrs. William O’Brien of Rochester and siblings Daniel, Michael and John Culane, and Mrs. William Bunce of Ireland, Miss Catherine Culhane and Mrs. Charles Reeling of Rochester, Mrs. Michael Windle of Honeoye Falls and Mrs. John Bunce of Victor.
