WRITERS Week and the races brought a diverse crowd to Listowel last weekend, the racing crowd appear to come and go without leaving any money in the town. While most of the writers are short of money, at least they paraded up and down the town and brought some flavour with them. Eddie Hobbs was at the Arms on Saturday afternoon and sold a few books, the message was too late for some. The discussion on Irish art and culture over the next twenty years on Saturday evening attracted nearly a full house in the Arms Ballroom. Art and culture reminds me of John B Keane who sent some of his early works to the Abbey, they showed no interest in his work at first, but later they were like a cow and a cock of hay. It is said that Keane glued the corners of some pages to see if his work was read, it was noted the pages were still glued when copy was returned to him.

CONGRATULATIONS and best wishes to Fr Brendan O Callaghan who recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the Priesthood.

THANKS to our Sacristan Margaret who kept flowers in abundance during May around Our Lady’s Altar.
