QUIZ: Congratulations to the U-11 quiz team from Scoil Chorp Chriost who won the regional final of the Credit Union quiz on Friday night January 29th 2010 at the Presentation Convent School. The team members were Maedbh McEvoy, Rachel Rowlands Jerry Clancy and Darren Doody who was Captain. The team will now go forward to the County Final which will be held on March 7th at a venue to be decided. This was a great achievement for our local school and we wish them the best in the next round of the quiz. Well done also to our U-13 team Carol Clancy, Cillian Doody, Jack Goulding and Padraig Dowling (Captain) who performed so well in their section.

SQUIRRELS: The tax payer had to pay for a 32 page educational package on Red Squirrels which as sent to all primary and secondary schools last year, also 273 traps for grey squirrels were given to forest owners on loan and gun clubs received sponsorship to kill 1400 grey squirrels.

BEST wishes to Rachel O Gorman and Liam Corridan who are representing Kerry in the solo singing category of the Munster Youth Club variety finals, which will be held at Killorglin on Feb. 13th ’10.

AGM of Knockanure Fianna Fail Cumann was held on Sat. night Feb. 6th ’10, Deputy Tom McEllistrim TD told the meeting of various incentives being provided by the government including the E50 million home insulation allocation, several sports clubs in the district received funding over the years including E123, 000 to Athea GAA for clubroom facilities. LEAHY: William Leahy born 1800 son of Tim Leahy and Mary Enright married Mary McKenna c 1826 she was a daughter of Tom McKenna and Jane Foulkes.

DIED: Michael Hunt of Gortdromagowna died in Dayton, Ohio on 27th Jan. 1890; Kerryman reports death of M. J Nolan of Moyvane on 31st Jan. 1920, he was first Chairman of Kerry County Council.

DEATH took place on January 29th 2010 of Bridget Neville, nee Mullane of Lenamore and formally of Derry, Listowel. She was predeceased by her husband John and is survived by her children, Gerard, Tom, Vourneen Kissane and Marian. Following Requiem Mass at Ballylongford Church on Monday February 1st Bridget Neville was laid to rest at Lislaughtin Abbey.

DEATH took place suddenly at her home at Woodlands Tarbert of Eileen Holly nee Sheahan on January 30th 2010. Eileen is survived by her husband Mike and children Maeve, Se=E1n, Ciara and Cathal. Following Requiem Mass on Tuesday at St Mary’s Church Eileen Holly was laid to rest in the nearby Churchyard.

DEATH took place on February 2nd 2010 of Mary Fitzgibbon nee Condon of Lisnamuck, Croagh. Mary was predeceased by her husband Jim, and is survived by her children Jimmy, Gerard, Michael John, Margaret and Mary Flaherty who resides at Gortdromosillihy, Moyvane. Following Requiem Mass in the Church of St John the Baptist Croagh on Saturday February 6th Mary Fitzgibbon was laid to rest in the nearby cemetery Croagh.

Death has taken place of Patsy Walsh of Gortaglanna Ballybunion Road, Listowel and Market Street, Listowel, he was predeceased by his wife Chris Moynihan and siblings Mossie and Timmy and is survived by his sister Peggy O Sullivan following Requiem Mass in Listowel Church on Thursday February 4th 2010 Patsy Walsh was laid to rest at St. Michael’s Cemetery.

DEATH occurred of Mickey Egan aged 86, of Coilbee, Listowel, following Requiem Mass in Listowel Church Mickey Egan was laid to rest at St Michael’s Churchyard on February 3rd 2010. Mickey Egan a brother of Jeremiah and Billy Egan who were on the North Kerry Championship winning side of 1954 and Grandfather of Kerry footballer, Sean O’Sullivan.

DEATH took place recently of John Dore of Ballygologue Park, following Requiem Mass in Listowel Church on Saturday February 5th 2010, John Dore was laid to rest at St Michaels Cemetery Listowel.

DEATH took place in London of Bridie Stack a native of Mayo and is survived by her husband Timothy Stack a native of Aughrim, Moyvane and four daughters, an only son died at a young age many years ago.
