KNOCKANURE: Annual Christmas Celebration of The Nativity Pageant will take place again this year in Corpus Christi Church Knockanure on Sunday 22nd December 2013.

SCHOOL  Concert will take place in Knockanure Community Centre on 19th of December at 8.00 pm followed by local musicians, singers and story tellers. There will also be tickets sold on the night for spot prizes. Your support will be appreciated.

PARTY: Athea Going Strong and Vincent de Paul are  holding their Annual Christmas Party on Wednesday December 11th at The Top of the Town. Mass is at 12 noon followed by dinner.

LIBRARY CLOSURE Listowel Library will be closed for building works from Monday December 9th to Saturday December 14th inclusive.  Re-opening on Monday Dec.  16th at 10am.

DEATH has taken place of Sheila Carmody, nee Brosnan, of Ballyduff, Knocknagoshel, aged 99, predeceased by husband  Bob Carmody, several years ago, survived by sons, Ned and Pat, daughters, Marie, Anna and Joan. Sheila was a native of Dromadamore, Lyreacrompane. Following Requiem Mass at St. Mary’s Church, Knocknagoshel on Thursday 28th November 2013, Sheila Carmody was afterwards laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Knocknagoshel.

DEATH: Sr. Kate Creedon, Order of the Daughters of Mary and Joseph and formerly of Shannonview, Ballymackessy, Ballylongford

DEATH took place on  December 4, 2013 of  Rosalie O’Callaghan, née O’Dwyer, Ardilea House, Dublin, Middleton Park, Co. Westmeath, Marylebone, London W1 and, Kilmorna,
wife of the late Jim, survived by children, James, Rose Marie, Toni, Brendan, Diarmaid and Aisling. Funeral on Monday 9th December  after 11am Mass in Duagh Church to Springmount Cemetery, Duagh.

DEATH took place on 4th December 2013 of Tommy Foley of Coolnagraigue, Lenamore, Ballylongford. Tommy is survived by his wife  Margaret, daughter Clodagh, his father Tom, sister, Kathleen, brothers, Jim, Sean and Jer , aunts and uncle. Requiem Mass for Tommy Foley was celebrated By Fr Kennelly assisted by four priests and hymns were sung by Elaine Foley in  St. Michael’s Church, Ballylongford on Saturday 7th December 2013. Tommy was laid to rest afterwards in Lislaughtin Abbey. Tommy was son of Thomas and the late Maureen Halpin Foley, Gortdromasillihy, Moyvane.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: In preparation for Christmas will take place each Sunday of Advent in the Adoration Chapel Listowel, from 3pm to 6pm and also every Tuesday & Wednesday.

ACTIVE Retirement Day at Knockanure Community Centre.

I.C.A. held a very successful Family Fun Day in Moyvane recently and would like to thank all who supported them on the day.  The following were prize winners on the day:

SCHOOL Show at St John’s;  Wed 18th, Snow White and Rose Red’s Christmas Adventure. The beautiful sisters, a handsome prince, his dashing brother, a cuddly bear, a witch and her naughty son create  mayhem and laughter in this Christmas panto for primary students. Presented by Centre Stage Theatre, Belfast at 10am and 11.30am.

DUAGH CRAFT FAIR AND SANTA’S GROTTO: Hosted by the Duagh Development Association takes place in the Church Grounds on Sunday, December 15th. 2013.

ATHEA schoolchildren are preparing for an evening entitled ‘The Christmas Story’. This will take place in Athea Church on Tuesday December 17th starting at 7.30pm.

Friday, Richard Wall and James Wall of Shanagolden in County Limerick, were lodged in Ennis jail, under committal of Bindon Scott, Esq. charged with burglary and robbery committed in the dwelling house of Mr. Michael O’Shaughnessy, of Enniscorker Island, in this County.

Limerick Chronicle  9th July 1825.
A man named James Conway was murdered within a few miles of Listowel, on Monday, for simply driving his cow into a field where a bull was at pasture; the owners perceiving he wanted to have the benefit of the animal, without their permission, set upon him and beat him so unmercifully that death was the immediate consequence. Two of the assailants, William Doolan and Michael Doolan, were committed to Tralee Gaol the next day, for murder.

RELATIONS: FORD /Flynn. Looking for any information concerning my ggggrandparents, Michael Ford and Margaret Flynn. Margaret was the daughter of Martin Flynn, born between 1808 and 1818. We don’t know Michael’s date of birth, but he died shortly before Margaret emigrated with her oldest son, Michael in 1884 to Binghamton, NY.
