Our application for the competition has been submitted, its all systems go to improve on last years results. (2015 results attached)
The results for last year show an improvement of 6 marks which brings us to 276 out of a possible 450.
Adjudication time is upon us already and can take place anytime from June to the end of July.
We need your continued support and help to enhance the overall appearance of the village. Adjudicators will take into account everything from house painting, flower displays, gardens, general tidiness and litter control. If you haven’t done so already, you still have time to have another look around and see where you can make some improvements. We have the potential to improve our score further by concentrating on the areas outlined in the adjudicators report.
Regular clean ups will continue for the summer period. We are encouraged by the extra support received so far this year, especially with the large number of people who helped with the County Wide Clean-up in April. We collected a significant amount of rubbish around the village and on the approach roads.
Last year, for the purpose of clean up’s, each housing development & each road/street was looked after by the local residents, this proved very successful, keep up the good work. We would appeal to businesses to keep a constant watch on the area outside their premises & we request smokers not to litter, & use the containers provided by the bars.
All Clean up’s will be advertised in the local shops & Newsletters.
We wish to congratulate the teachers & pupils of Murhur National School in achieving their first Green Flag for littter & waste management. Well done to all involved & we wish them every success for the future in this programme.
Due to a reduction in numbers in our RSS & Solas (Fas) schemes we are unasble to provide a flower watering service this year & we are asking householders to help by watering containers adjacent to them.
As the Village Walk and Nature Trail is for everyone’s enjoyment we would ask people to help keep this area clean and tidy. Unfortunately some incidents of vandalism and anti-social behaviour have taken place in the nature trail and around the village over the recent past. Trees, hedging and fences have been damaged at various times.
Moyvane Development Association fully encourages residents with dogs on leash to use the walk, please use Poop Scoop bags which are available free of charge at the Post Office.
Dumping of rubbish has also been occurring at the Bottle Bank and at other places through out the parish. We would like to remind people that illegal dumping is prohibited & carries a fine of €3000. A CCTV system is in operation at the bottle bank and this is being monitored by KCC. Please refrain from leaving bottles etc at bottle bank if containers are full, also take home all empty bags & boxes.
General Activities
- We have acquired a plot of land at the rear of Wood Grove from KCC to be used to extend our Nature Trail. We are seeking funding to develop this area, by draining & planting Native trees. This which would extend the wooded area significantly thus encouraging a greater a variety of plants & wildlife to establish there & contribute to our effort towards helping with Biodiversity & the environment.
- Our application for funding from KCC Community Support Funding was unsuccessful this year, which leaves our Village renewal Plan on hold.
- 200 additional trees have been planted around Bruach na Gaile & the Nature Trail by SSE staff from Tarbert Power Stn.
- A Fence has been erected at the viewing platform in the Nature Trail.
- Building of storerooms is in progress at the rear of Community Centre.
- The Garden of Remembrance at school is nearing completion.
- Regular village clean-ups are ongoing.
- The Solas (Fás) & RSS workers continue to carry out the general maintenance programme throughout the Village.
- Our Village Festival continues to be our main fundraiser, with last year being another great success, thanks to everybody who supported us in any way, from helping out with organizing, & supporting the various events, a special word of thanks to our many sponsors, who continue to support us, even in these very difficult economic times.
All Village residents and parishioners are welcome to participate in our clean-ups.
