Deaths:
We lost three of our parishioners over Christmas.
Jack O’Brien, husband of local woman, Emma Holly, passed away on Christmas Eve after a brief illness. Up to a short time before his death Jack was a very healthy, active man so his death came as a shock to everyone in the parish. Jack, who was in his late sixties was a native of Cahirdown, Listowel and had been living in Moyvane since 1975. His is survived by his wife, Emma and son Ivan, sisters Oonagh & Carmel, brothers Liam, Owen and Gerard. Removal took place on Tuesday, December 27th to the Church of the Assumption, Moyvane with Requiem Mass on Wednesday followed by burial in Ahavoher Cemetery, Moyvane.
St. Stephen’s Day saw the death of Maureen Sheehy of Leitrim Middle. Maureen, who was 80, was wife of the late Ned Sheehy. Ned and Maureen were an enterprising couple, noted for their hard work and they raised a large family, ten in all. She is survived by her children Mary, Kathleen, Tom, Eddie, Denny, Martin, Patsy, Hannah, Nancy & James, sister Nora and brothers Paddy and Tom. Maureen was waked at her daughter, Mary’s house in Ashgrove, she was brought to the Church of the Assumption, Moyvane on Thursday December 29th for Requiem Mass and was laid to rest beside her husband, Ned Sheehy (The Boss) in Ahavoher.
Monnie (Dan) Keane of Coilagurteen died last Wednesday, January 4th at the age of 92. A larger than life character he was involved in everything that took place in both North Kerry and West Limerick and made a huge contribution to both communities. Dan was a man who had a way with words and poetry came naturally to him. He published a number of books, his most recent being "A Kerryman’s Limericks". Dan was predeceased by his wife Bridget and son Danny. He is survived by his sons Brendan, Paudie, Mike & Joe, sisters Joan & Teresa who are also in their nineties. His removal was from Lyons Funeral home to the Church of the Assumption, Moyvane with burial in Ahavoher Cemetery last Saturday.
To the relatives and extended families of all three, sincere sympathy to you all, the parish is poorer for their passing.
The family of Patricia Flynn nee O’Connor of Monaleen Park, Limerick would like to thank all who traveled to her funeral recently.
