Moyvane Notes – 11th March, 2007

Condolences:
The whole parish was shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death in New York of 38 year old Richard Sheehan, Post Office, Moyvane Village on Monday last, the 5th March. Richard lived in America for a number of years and was at home for Christmas last with his family. His remains were removed to Moyvane Church on Friday last and buried in Ahavoher Cemetery following requiem Mass on Saturday. Son of the late Dick Sheehan, he is survived by his brother Thomas, sisters Katherina, Veronica & Bernadette, his mother Bridie, grandmother Bridget, uncles and aunts. Sympathy is extended to the bereaved family

Moyvane GAA – Seniors:
In their second outing of the North Kerry League, Moyvane were beaten by Beale on a scoreline of 2-9 to 0-6. The game was played in very poor weather conditions and Moyvane were missing some players and also lost Paddy Curtin to injury during the game.  

The NKL match against St. Senans which was scheduled to be played on Sunday, 18th March has been postponed.

 

 

 

Minors:
The minors play host to Tarbert in their first game of the NKL, which will be played on Monday, 19th March. No time has been set for this game so please check the fixtures notices around the village for confirmation.  

Membership:
Club Membership is now available from committee members – €30 for players and €10 for non-players.

 

Coiste na nOg:
The AGM of Moyvane Coiste na nOg took place in the Marian Hall on Monday, 5th March. The following officers were elected for the coming year:

  • Treasurers – Ger Greaney & Paddy Leahy
  • Team Trainers – U-10 – Dan Stack, Billy Lynch, Jerry Harrison

  • Team Trainers – U-14 – Dan Flavin, Jerry Fitzmaurice, James Sheehy & Ger Kennelly
Coiste na nOg would like to thank everyone who contributed to their recent Church Gate Collection and also to those who attended their Fundraising Pub Quiz and to all who sponsored prizes on the night.

 


Wedding:
The marriage took place of Adrian Kennelly, Knockanure Village and Margo Galvin, Greenville, Listowel in Knockanure Church last week. The reception was held afterwards in the Manor West Hotel, Tralee.

 

Estuary Athletic Club – Race Night:
This Friday night, March 16th, Speedy’s Bar in Moyvane will be hosting a fundraising video race night in aid of Estuary Athletic Club. This event starts at 9pm. The support of the local communities of Moyvane, Knockanure, Athea, Tarbert, Ballylongford & Glin is vital to raise the necessary funds needed to finance the running of the club. The support of parents of athletes on the night would be greatly appreciated.

Training continues on Tuesday evenings in the Community Centre, Moyvane from 6-7pm. Registration of athletes can also be done at that time.

Moyvane Development & Tidy Towns Association:
The A.G.M. of the Moyvane Development & Tidy Towns Association will be held on Tuesday, 20th of March at 9pm in the Marian Hall. We would welcome and encourage new people to become involved this year in our association. We hold monthly meetings and in October organise the local Village Festival. All welcome to attend and help make Moyvane a better and brighter place.

Moyvane ICA:
Moyvane ICA will sell daffodils in support of the Irish Cancer Society after Mass on Friday 16th & Saturday 17th March in Moyvane and in Knockanure on Sunday 18th March. Daffodils are €3. Please support this worthy cause.

Ladies Football:
Moyvane Ladies Football training for U-12 & U-14 girls will commence at 7pm Friday evening, 16th March at the local pitch.

Death:
The death took has took place of Sister Francis Galvin, Holy Family Convent, Rockferry, Liverpool and late of Barragougeen, Moyvane. Deeply regretted by her loving community, her dear sisters Galvielle and Mary O Flathery, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was 84 years of age.
