Moyvane Village Festival:
The Village Festival only gets bigger and better. This year had more entertainment, better entertainment and catered for all age groups, human and otherwise and all shapes and sizes from the sublime to the ridiculous. Mayor of Kerry, Tim Buckley, officially opened the Festival on Friday evening. The street entertainment got off to a "stylish" start with a Drag Queen race. Almost all the local football team turned out with many others who fancied themselves in high heel shoes, mini skirts, maxi dresses and wonderful make up. They ran and danced, or should we say gyrated, to the music of The Promise who performed on the open air stage. The prizes were presented to the lovely "girlettes" by Miss Universe Ireland, Aoife Hannon from Listowel. First Prize went to Donal Leahy, second was Edmund Sweeney and third David Mullane. Enright’s Bar won the Inter Pub competition, so congratulations to Donal & Hannah. We now know that we have many budding artists among us following the exhibition by the pupils of the local Primary School. It was good to be able to give these young people a platform to display their work. Prizewinners were, from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, Aine Shine, Aoife Curran, Jack Monaghan, Aidan Swan, Aobha Quinn, Eimear Shine, Rebecca Curran and Patrice Galvin. On Saturday night the Boro Buffet was, once again, the highlight of the weekend with a hot main course served by chefs Noreen Kennelly and Caroline Hughes assisted by the ladies of Moyvane ICA. Entertainment was provided by Brian Murphy, Causeway and Tom Moore. Sunday was an action packed day with the Vintage Rally, Mini Trade and Craft Fair, a youth club walk, an Under 12 Halloween Treasure Hunt and a Dog Show with all sizes and colours of canines on view. What Festival would be complete without a Bonnie Baby Competition? They came in all shapes and sizes too! Winners were: U12 months, Patsy Rose Byrne, Ballybunion & Darragh Stack, Moyvane, Under 24 months L. J. Horan, Aughrim and Isabella Stocero, Leitrim Middle. Bridie Griffin, Ballydonoghue was winner of the Glamorous Granny contest. Congratulations to all who took part in all the events. More reports from Monday’s events next week.
