Songs from the Boro:
On Friday, December 9tj a new CD “Songs from the Boro” was officially launched in the Marian Hall, Moyvane by Radio Kerry’s Weeshie Fogarty. This was an event that was well supported and nobody was disappointed  with the evening. Drinks were served followed by the inimitable Weeshie who really put his stamp on the evening. The format kept everybody interested with Weeshie introducing each of the items and playing a snippet of each. The CD is a compilation of Moyvane and Kerry GAA songs and poems. It kicks off with "The Boro & The Gleann" and finishes with the the song about Moyvane’s most famous dog, "Dainty Man". Many of the songs were written by Cormac O’Leary and Paddy Enright and there’s a Dan Keane recitation of course. An interesting part of the evening was the connection to Con Brosnan. Robert Stack, Ballybunion, son of Bob Stack, who partnered Con Brosnan at midfield for Kerry and Eddie Walsh, son of Jack Walsh, Craughdarrig also a member of that great Kerry team are also featured on the CD. Both Robert and Eddie were in Moyvane for the launch. Con, Bob and Jack Walsh won six All Ireland medals each. At the end of the evening food was served and there was plenty of chat and memories revisited. Congratulations to all who took part in the production, it’s a credit to all concerned. The CD costs €10 and proceeds from the sales will be donated to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin, a very worthy cause. You can buy your CD in the village from Brosnan’s Bar 068-49322, and Nolan’s Shop 068-49281, in Listowel from JK Sports and in Tralee from Stokers Lodge. This is a history of football in Moyvane and it is an ideal present for Moyvane people living abroad.

Death: The death of Dr. Jim Brosnan took place in Dingle recently. A native of Moyvane and son of the late Con Brosnan, holder of six All Ireland medals, Jim also played for Kerry and won three All Ireland medals in 1953, 1955 & 1959. Like his father before him he trained Kerry teams and the Kerry minors under his care won back to back All Irelands in 1962 and 1963. He served Kerry well on the pitch and went on to do likewise in the boardroom where he held the position of County Chairman for several years. His service to the GAA was recognised at a special function in the Dingle Skellig Hotel in February 2010, shortly after his eightieth birthday, where Tom Long described him as "a jewel in the crown of Kerry football." He is survived by his wife Kitty, sons Dr. Conor, Barry and Sean and his brother Jerry. May he rest in peace.
