Moyvane Notes – 12th February, 2008

GAA Social:
A very enjoyable and successful night was held in Kirbys Lanterns Hotel on Friday 8th February. Many thanks to the management and staff of Kirbys Lanterns Hotel for their hospitality on the night. Also many thanks to The PJ Murrihy Band who kept the floor full all night and to DJ Excel for an excellent disco. Thanks to the special guests who came from near and far to pay tribute to Seán Walsh on his 10 years as Chairman of the Kerry County Board. Seán recieved two presentatons on the night. Congratulations to the players who were presented with their Novice County Championship medals. Finally thanks to everyone who helped in any way to make the Moyvane GAA social a night to remember.

GAA Membership:
Club membership is available at €40 for players and €20 for non-players. Membership can be paid to committee members.

Parish Retreat:
The Annual Parish Retreat will take place at the Ardfert Retreat Centre on Sunday 17th February. For further details, please contact Nodie Brosnan on 49352, Julia Stack on 49401 or Bridie Shine on 49103.

Community Games – Art:
Community Games Art for u-8, u-10, u-12 & u-14 boys and girls will take place this Sunday 17th February at 3pm in the Marian Hall Moyvane. All welcome. Please bring your own art material and paper.

Rain:
21mm of rain fell in the Moyvane area last week. 

Moyvane Girls Football Club:
Registration takes place on 17th February between 1 and 2 o'clock in the Marian Hall for u-12, u-14 & u-16. All are welcome.

Mission Project Dance:
Fr. Tommy Hanlon's Mission Project in Pakistan will host a Buffet and Dance on Saturday March 1st 2008 at 9pm in the Kirby Lanterns Hotel. Music by Just Partners and admission is €10. Fr. Tommy in his younger days was a very good footballer and wore the Green and Gold with passion when he led the Kerry Minor Team to All-Ireland Glory all those years ago. Today Fr Tommy wears the jersey of Christianity where he ministers to the Christian Community of faraway Pakistan. Your support for this fund raising event will be greatly appreciated. Fr Tommy's mother, the late Mary Moran, was a native of Keylod, Moyvane.

North Kerry Pioneer Social:
The North Kerry Pioneer Annual Social takes place on Friday 29th February at 8pm at Kirbys Lanterns Hotel. Music by Oliver & Tony. Tickets €25 and can be obtained from Michael Liston or Mary Kearney, The Village.

Community Employmnet Scheme Vacancy:
A vacancy has arisen for 19.5 hours per week with Moyvane Development Association on the FAS Scheme. Apply in writing to: The Supervisor, Community Employment Scheme, The Bridewell, Tarbert, Co Kerry.

Senior Badminton:

  • The Div 5 mixed league team of Edel Normile, Francine Collins, Eleanor Sheehan, Eileen Roche, Edward Stack, Sean Pender and Maurice Cuddigan defeated Listowel 5-2 on Tuesday night.
  • At the Paddy Sugrue Tournament in Tralee on Sunday,  Jeanelle Griffin and Michelle Corridan were finalists in Div 3 and Div 5 respectivly.
  • At the Munster Schools finals in UL on Thursday last, while playing for Tarbert Comprehensive, Kevin Kennelly was on the u19 winning team, and the following were on teams which were finalists, U14 Con Mulvihill, Brian Griffin, & Timothy Noonan, and U19 Girls Michelle Corridan, Breda Lane and Shauna Foley.
  • At the doubles tournament in Tralee on Saturday, winners were U14 Rose O'Faolain, U16 Elaine Hudson, U14 Aidan Kennelly, Finalists were U16 Gerdi Mulvihill & U14 Con Mulvihill. Medal winners in the plate were U16 Denise Flaherty, Denise Collins, U12 Kevin Hudson, Timothy Noonan and James Noonan.

Country Music Awards Night:
Tickets are currently on sale for WL102fm's First Annual Country Music Awards night which will be held at the Rathkeale House Hotel on Monday February 25th next. Dancing commences at 9pm and the headline act on the night is Paddy O'Brien. Other artistes include Declan Aungier, Norman Morrisssy, Mac and O, Shane Downey, Marty Daniels, Cathriona O' Sullivan from the Eddie Lee Band and last but by no means least Patrick O' Sullivan. Valentine's Night Disco:
Calling all those born from 1960 onwards who still remember what romance was! An 80's Disco will be held at the Ballintemple Inn, Newcastlewest on Thursday 14th with doors open from 9pm. This is a fundraiser for local community radio and the D.J's will be some of the best of the music show presenters on WL102fm from Rockin' Eddie to Ronan the Hunk so do come along and relive a few magical moments and support your local radio station.

West Limerick Toastmasters:
It is still not too late to join Toastmasters at the Desmond Complex, Newcastlewest on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 8.30pm to 10.30pm. There you will learn to speak with confidence, gain self confidence and have loads of craic as well. Admission including Tea, Coffee and Choccie Biscuits costs just €4.
