This Friday night is a special night for your local school. It is the Annual School Concert, the one night in the year when the pupils can showcase their talent. They are your children, your grandchildren, cousins, friends, neighbours and they will be proud to show you what they can do. It is also a night when you can show your appreciation for the staff of Murhur National School who are providing an education for a new generation. The children are selling tickets at the moment. A ticket will cost you €5 and that includes entry to the concert and you could win one of the fabulous raffle prizes including a Weekend Away, an IPad Air and lots of other prizes. Don’t forget it’s this Friday night, December 16th starting at 8pm.
Community spirit is alive and well in Moyvane I am happy to say. The effort that has been put into lighting and decorating the Village is a credit to the members of the various organisations, too numerous to mention. Last Saturday night the Christmas Tree lights were switched on by Santa Claus. The choir sang Carols. These are people who, voluntarily, give of their time and not just at Christmas. Thank you all.
SANTA
Santa visited Holly’s Gala on Thursday, December 8th and was a huge success, busy all day. Well done to Terry Dunne, manager of the only Supermarket now trading in the village and providing a wonderful service. He went above and beyond by busing the pupils of Knockanure School down to visit Santa, get their presents and have their pictures taken with the great man. The store raffle was held on the day with twenty really good prizes. First prize of a 32″ TV went to Dan Joe Riordan, Moyvane North. Second Prize: A Mountain Bike went to Mary Stack, Glenalappa. Mary Lynch Mulvihill ,Lower Aughrim won third prize of a Kettle & Toaster. Eileen Cronin won a Miele vacuum cleaner. The most interesting part of this raffle is the winner of the Mountain Bike. For those of you who don’t know Mary Stack is 99 years old (going on 50!). She is a wonderful, wonderful person who is hale and hearty. She bakes like it was going out of fashion, does her own painting, wallpapering, window cleaning etc. We will look forward to the big 100 next year and by the way she said that learning to ride a bike has been on her bucket list for a long time!!!
