Vintage Rally:

In days gone by, the 15th August was a big day in Knockanure. The annual Sports Day used to take place, dating back to the 1890's. For the last number of years, the local committee holds a Vintage Rally. This year's vintage day will take place on Sunday 20th August. Due to the Kerry/Cork match, the children's sports will commence at 1.30pm sharp. All ages are welcome. The match can be seen on a big screen in the field. Live music from 2pm – 3.30pm. The old school committee ar eholding a cake and bric-a-brac sale on the day. Any donations of cakes, tarts, bric-a-brac, etc. will be greatly appreciated. These may be handed in to any member of the committee.

The chiropodist will attend the Marian Hall this Saturday, August 19th, at 11am. Book with Eileen Quinn – 49472.

Thought for the Week:

Old Customs in days gone by – when a person was about to emigrate to America, there would be a big celebration of music, song, dance & drink which would often go on for a week and it was known as the American Wake. Alot of those that emigrated in those days never returned to this country.

Cemeteries:

With the three graveyards looking immaculate for the Annual Graveyard Masses (which took place last week), a few committee members tell me their long term plan is to tarmacadam the car park in the Old Cemetery in Knockanure, and the construction of permanent Altars in each of the three cemeteries. The Knockanure/ Moyvane Cemetery Committee wish to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to all who contributed so generously at the Graveyard Masses.

Cork City Women’s Mini Marathon for Bóthar:
