Moyvane

Moyvane Notes – 13th February, 2009

Moyvane Post Office:
By now you probably all know that Bridie Sheehan is retiring as Postmistress. She has asked me to thank all of you from Moyvane/Knockanure and surrounding areas for your support over the past 21 years and she would like to wish whoever takes over the business every success in the future. Bridie has provided an unbroken service in this parish during her tenure and before that, with her husband, the late Dick Sheehan for an incredible 41 years. She is a quiet, unassuming lady who got on with her business and provided a service that is sadly missing in so many villages now. With post offices closing right, left and centre it is vital that we support our local office. We, the consumers have contributed to the closure of many rural post offices by paying our bills by direct debit, having children’s allowance and pensions paid directly into banks, which we were encouraged to do, and look where the banks have landed us! It is time for all of us to rethink the situation and support our local businesses. We, in Moyvane can count ourselves lucky to have a creamery, post office and shops that are all successful and draw customers from the surrounding parishes. Let’s keep it that way, it’s a case of use it or lose it. To Bridie, on behalf of all of us who live in the postal area may I say, thank you for your service and may you have a long and very happy retirement.
