Village Festival:
Can you believe that next week’s Bank Holiday weekend sees the eighteenth Village Festival? Well believe it or not it’s true, and it has gone from strength to strength with every year. It is very hard to keep thinking of new ideas and trying to compete with so many other events is not easy but the Development Association seem to have a knack of getting things right. On Friday evening the Mayor of Kerry, our own Pat Leahy, will officially open the Festival. The evening kicks off with an open air concert with "An Striolain" supported by local artists, followed by the popular inter pub talent competition for a much sought after Perpetual Trophy. Saturday night’s Boro Buffet is the real highlight of the weekend for many and tickets are like gold dust. This is the seventh Boro Buffet and if you haven’t already got a ticket you need to contact a member of the committee immediately. Sunday is Family Fun Day with loads of Kiddies activities including face painting and a dog show in the Community Centre. The Vintage Display will, of course, bring participants from far and near as it has done over the past ten years. This year a Small Business Trade Fair/Farmer’s Market will be held in conjunction with the Vintage. This event is to help promote local business and producers by either advertising their services or products and also to provide them with an opportunity to sell. Display space is FREE, but as space is limited it is essential to book in advance. For booking contact 068 49298 or 087 2733305. Sunday will wrap up with a local Variety Concert in the Marian Hall. Monday sees the North Kerry Harriers hunt season kick off. A charity match, North Kerry v West Limerick, will be held in Con Brosnan Park in the afternoon with prominent Inter-County players on both sides. All proceeds will go to the Nano Nagle School and Kerry Parents & Friends and the Shane Healy Fund, Glin. Tickets are €5 each and this includes admission to the game and a raffle which will be held at half time. The Rambling House which will be held in Brosnan’s Bar will close the Festival. An array of local talent will bring an end to an action packed weekend. The many festivals have, over the years, provided funds for the various village projects, thanks to the support of sponsors, members of the business community and residents of the village and indeed the entire parish. This year in particular the committee would appreciate your support and hope that you enjoy the various events taking place. Posters and leaflets will be available in the shops and they will fill you in on the full programme of events with times and venues.
